Fascinating murder mystery takes you behind the Iron Curtain in Poland, March 10, 2009
This review is from: What a Day to Die ! (Kindle Edition)
This is a fascinating story about a 1969 murder in Boston that is witnessed by Polish Sailors and therefore takes the Mass. State Police Detectives behind the Iron Curtain in an untiring search for justice. This story shows you the workings of a murder investigation and how the detectives work tirelessly for justice for the common man.
What sets this story apart from other crime novels (besides the fact that it is based on an actual murder case) is that the Polish sailors who witnessed the murder were on a one day visa into the city of Boston while their Polish fish factory ship had emergency repairs at the Boston shipyards. This was the first communist ship EVER to dock in Boston.
When the investigation shows that sailors from this ship saw the murder take place, the political negotiations start to allow the American detectives to go behind the Iron Curtain to interview the sailors in their home port in Poland. Never before had American policemen been allowed behind the Iron Curtain.
I think this story will intrigue readers who love Boston, detective stories or stories of the Cold War or Poland.
If you loved Dennis Lehane's 'Mystic River' you will love 'What a Day to Die !"
I can honestly say I have never read a story like it ! Enjoy !
