The way she gently, and with carefully chosen words, introduces children to the marvels of the miracle of creation is fantastic!

Format: Paperback
Well written, thoughtfully rooted in scripture, an excellent book for parents to use with their own children. HOWEVER, it is NOT for ages 4-8 like the first 2 books in the series (Why do Plants Grow and Why Do Birds Build Nests?). It is for the changing adolescent and should be used according to Ecclesiastes -- in its time. Be wary leaving it on a library shelf where younger students have access. It is more verbally graphic than most parents of early grade schoolers are ready for them to experience.

As the the third book in the Miracle of Creation series, "What is God's Design for My Body?" is a wonderful way to gently tell children about human reproduction. This book uses kid-friendly examples to communicate the truth about sex and its intended purpose. Susan Horner accomplishes exactly what she sets out to do; she has written a nonembarrassing, discreet series that will act as a foundation for parents to talk with their children about sex using examples from the natural world and from the experiences of young men and women who have saved themselves for their spouses.

I purchased this for my two older children. I wanted to read over it before giving it to them to read. I was very pleased that it does not get graphic, there are no photos of reproductive organs, etc. I love that it explains how we as Christians (and everyone really) are supposed to wait for that one special peron (our spouse) to have relations with AFTER we are married. It explains to young men and ladies about the changes that are happening to their bodies. If you are looking for detailed descriptions you may want to look somewhere else. If you want to give them a good idea of how things work and some encouragement to stay pure then this is it. I was a bit disappointed that the books is so small(maybe 5 x 6 inches. Overall I was pleased with the godly way of presenting pre-teens/young teens (I'd say 9-12 year olds) with the simple facts of life.

I bought this book and sat down with my eleven year old daughter to have "the talk". This book REALLY helped...not that I was dreading "the talk" or even worried about it. But this book gives such a wonderful foundation for 1) beginning "the talk", 2) provoking questions and answers between you and your pre-teen and 3) reiterating waiting. It truly is a springboard for more discussion and opening communication between you and your child. It covers both male and female anatomy (leaving room for discussion). The book covers the basics very well and leaves plenty of gaps for you as a parent to fill in for your child. Some parents may find this useful. Some may want to go further and some may simply leave it where the book does. Either way...this book is a must have for any parent that wants to discuss sex with their child on Faith based terms.
