5.0 out of 5 stars What You Didn't Think to Ask Your Obstetrician
Mom's & Dad's to be: Excellent Book.... Lot's of information that you'll never think to ask until you browse. Doc Poliakin delivered our Son, Edward in Thousand Oaks, CA. There's so many things in this book that are pratical, simple, common sense guidelines with general information to help influence confidence in parent(s) to be. Believe me, he's a down to earth...

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK
This book was ok. If you know anything at all about pregnancy, and have talked to a doctor, you already have the answers to most of these questions. Most of them had to do with what you should and shouldn't do as a pregnant woman (coloring hair, painting nails, etc.) There were a few questions in here that I hadn't thought of, but probably didn't need to know the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Step away from Google - and get this book instead!, March 12, 2010

Every pregnant woman I know, myself included, spends countless hours googling every worry, leaving themselves open to the opinions of many self-styled "experts"- usually outlining every possible horrifying outcome before listing the ever-present "ask your obgyn." Well, now you can skip right to the end! Dr. Poliakin answers all your questions with up-to-date and straightforward advice - and he makes it clear when you really need to worry. I've found it extremely helpful and comforting throughout my pregnancy. I wish I had spent all those hours I wasted on pregnancy websites before getting this book learning how to sew or practicing yoga and whatnot, but I'm glad I found it in the end.

By the way, my husband highly recommends this book for other soon-to-be dads who would like a positive and helpful way to deal with their partners' burgeoning paranoid anxiety. Happy and healthy pregnancies to all!

5.0 out of 5 stars What You Didn't Think to Ask Your Obstetrician is A MUST HAVE, August 29, 2010
Any woman who is having a baby for the first time should read this book. Dr. Poliakin is an amazing doctor and knows what he is talking about. This book was so informative and told me exactly what I needed to know without all the fluff you find in other Pregnancy books. Whenever I had a question or concern, all I needed to do was refer to the glossary in the back, and I found what I was looking for. This book is an easy read and gets straight to the point. I would recommend this book to all my family and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have if you are pregnant, March 10, 2010

This book is a life saver. I found the What to Expect When You're Expecting to not really answer the questions that would come up on a daily basis. In the last week I have already used this book 4 times. It answers everything from is it okay to take tylenol to how much caffeine is okay, all the questions you forget to ask while you are at the dr's office. It is very simple to use and the perfect gift for anyone who is expecting.

5.0 out of 5 stars If your going to read one book on pregnancy, this should be it!, October 14, 2009

If you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or know someone who has even been pregnant you have most likely heard of What to Expect When You're Expecting: Fourth Edition. Described as the classic pregnancy book, I received a requisite copy from my friend before even getting pregnant. I read it and found it fairly helpful, but at the same time pessimistic and alarming.

My doctor gave me a copy of What You Didn't Think to Ask Your Obstetrician: Answers to 1000 Questions About Your Pregnancy. After reading it cover to cover, I used it for reference whenever I had questions during my entire pregnancy.

Similar to What to Expect..., What You Didn't Think to Ask Your Obstetrician: Answers to 1000 Questions About Your Pregnancy covers everything you want to know about pregnancy and more you probably could've been blissfully happy not knowing. The information is presented in a straight forward manner with a simple Q & A format. Each question flowed logically into the next and made the information presented interesting to the reader.

I would highly recommend this title as the first and only pregnancy book to read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly good but...he's wrong about water birth!, December 23, 2008
By
Chris Yoshino (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
I got this book right before my 3rd child was born, and ended up reading it mostly after the birth. Most of his answers are very good, but I was taken aback when he answers questions about labor and birth in water. He says that water birth is safe but that water won't help with labor pain. I had just experienced immense relief from labor pain when I got in the hot tub at the hospital, and wondered why this doctor so casually dismissed the potential relief warm water can bring. I can only guess it is because he has never experienced it himself!

I remember Dr. Poliakin giving me this book when I first saw him while pregnant with my first child. I already had a stack of pregnancy books but this is the one I ultimately referred to throughout the pregnancy. Dr. Poliakin gave straightforward advice that went past current trends and was based on his extensive knowledge and experience. Unlike the What to expect books - his book actually allowed you to enjoy pregnancy while knowing that you were doing everything in your power to keep your baby safe. Plus, he's a great cheerleader when it comes to trying to get pregnant and going through pregnancy!

I highly recommend this book to all expectant mothers and fathers. This book gives you straightforward and down-to-earth answers to all your questions, without causing undue concern as some other books tend to do. The Q&A format makes it easy to read and refer back to. Buy this book!!
