I've read all of Nicci French's books and this one was very disappointing. It starts with such good promise of being a really good mystery, but nothing really happens! Half way through the book I was still waiting for something to speed the plot along - for anything really. Ellie's husband dies with another woman and she is supposed to be finding out what happened, and if he was having an affair. The cover suggests there is a sinister secret, but in reality, nothing actually happens until the end! Very poor plot, I thought.

Having been a fan since the first book, I have to say that this book was less than exciting. I miss the brilliance and creativity of Nicci French.

NF usually writes a good in-flight or on-the-beach page turner but not with this clunker. I knew who the bad guy was very soon and slogged through to his dreary and unlikely unmasking a hundred pages after I'd lost interest. Glad I bought it used!!~

I am a big fan of Nicci French novels and have always found them a good romp of a read, engaging and well plotted. This one falls short. The storyline seems disjointed, the characters very flat. This particular book has also been published under a number of different titles which speaks to me of its inherent problem. The story didn't seem to know where it was going in the first place. I sincerely hope this husband and wife team haven't lost their touch in their hurry to simply publish books.

Big fan of Nicci French's books... Easy to read, intriguing story lines.

Can't put the book down.

I loved this book. It's typical Nicci French. Well-written, tightly plotted, a can't-put-it-down read. Can't wait for the next one.
