Book Description

September 30, 2004
Where did we come from? Where are we going? How will the world come to an end? Has God given us clues from which we can deduce an end-time scenario? Will believers be raptured, spared the tribulation of cataclysmic times?

Many Catholics find themselves confused by current speculations among fundamentalist Christians about the end of the world. These scenarios, often based on convoluted and faulty interpretations of Scripture, offer a blow-by-blow account of God s master plan for closing out history. Does the Bible really support such scenarios? How does Catholic teaching address our curiosity about the end of human history?

Through a careful examination of key biblical themes, symbols and imagery from Genesis to Revelation, Scripture scholar Father William Kurz demonstrates that the Bible is not a puzzle...to construct into an end-time scenario. Instead, he leads the reader to a deeper understanding of God s intent in creating humanity, his persistent efforts to rescue us from our sin, and Jesus final return in glory to judge the living and the dead.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good review. . ., January 24, 2005
This review is from: What Does The Bible Say About The End Times?: A Catholic View (Paperback)
. . .to counter some of the silliness out there (Jenkins and LaHaye) about the End Times.

Fr. William Kurz, SJ, is a noted Catholic New Testament scholar who trained at Yale University and has taught for decades at Marquette University. In this volume, created not for the scholar, but rather for the "Catholic in the Pew", he traces what the Church has REALLY taught about "Last Things", beginning NOT with Revelation -- but rather with Genesis!

Throughout, Fr. Kurz expresses a keen grasp of Scripture and biblical interpretation and shows the historically minded Christian the facts of the matter -- rather than fundamentalist hysteria.

A well-done book which I have recommended to others.

This review is from: What Does The Bible Say About The End Times?: A Catholic View (Paperback)
FR. WILLIAM KURZ really took the mystery out of the end-times with this book. You have all these Protestants running around screaming rapture rapture the sky is falling (reference to Chicken Little) and they don't even know what they are talking about. The rapture was invented by a 7 day Adventives preacher in the 1840's and the Protestants have globed onto it. I don't know why but they have. Well Father clears up a lot of this kind of disinformation. Read the book and get the end-times facts straight.
