2.0 out of 5 stars Cute but behind the times
I purchased this book for my second grade ccd class. It is cute but effectively equates being a priest with being a nun. There is nothing to indicate the interesting and beautiful differences between the two.

Secondly, many of the sisters are shown not wearing their habit. While this might be reflective of actual practice in the US and Europe today, it isn't...

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet story for young kids, May 13, 2011

The "intended" audience in the description says ages 4-8. For my family, the perfect age to read this book was age 2-5. It is a sweet and simple way to introduce vocations to your children, and a way to demystify religious life. It is very simple and straightforward with beautiful and fun illustrations. I think it is a great jumping-off point for future discussions with your kids about religious and lay roles in the Church. I highly recommend it as a Baptism gift or birthday gift for young children.

I purchased this book for my second grade ccd class. It is cute but effectively equates being a priest with being a nun. There is nothing to indicate the interesting and beautiful differences between the two.

Secondly, many of the sisters are shown not wearing their habit. While this might be reflective of actual practice in the US and Europe today, it isn't reflective of the how the vast majority of religious sisters in other parts of the world comport themselves. It's also a little behind in terms of developments in the US. For whatever reason, the orders in which religious sisters wear habits are attracting vocations (Dominicans in Ann Arbor, Dominicans in Nashville, Sisters of Life etc) while the ones that don't are dying out.

This book is very 70s/80s. I don't recommend it.
