5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read - makes you really think about who you are!
I LOVED this book. It is so very different to Taylor's previous books but at the same time, it is the natural progression. In Choices and Illusions and Mind Programming, Eldon shows us how other's can (and do) manipulate our thoughts and choices. In What Does That Mean he provides numerous examples of common beliefs we all have that make absolutely no sense. It is hard...

1.0 out of 5 stars A sorry excuse of a book
How in the world did this book get published? It is nothing but a collection of disjointed ruminations on the meaning of life and other "deep" subjects like purpose, free will, courage, etc. There is no central theme other than that sometimes odd things happen that cannot be readily explained. Well, duh!!! The problem is the author does not bring any new insights to bear...

In What Does That Mean he provides numerous examples of common beliefs we all have that make absolutely no sense. It is hard to deny the value of his previous books once you have read What Does That Mean? Who am I if my beliefs are not my own and make no sense at all? This is an invaluable addition to my library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Miss It!, January 7, 2010
This review is from: What Does That Mean?: Exploring Mind, Meaning, and Mysteries (Hardcover)
Wow--what a read!!! The idea of a book as an experience is not new, but this experience is! Just when I thought I was comfortable with "knowing" a little about myself the shutters were thrown open by "What Does That Mean?" and the light nearly blinded me. Sometimes the intensity was so great that I felt like throwing the book--but I didn't, I stayed with it and I do not regret that decision one tiny little bit. This book will provoke you, it will cause you to cry, it will bring laughter and joy to you, and much more--but what it won't do is allow you to remain status quo.

Eldon asks over and over again throughout the book, "What does that mean?" When you have read it all, perhaps even twice like I did, you will find that the answer is all about you. He paraphrases time and again the idea that we should know ourselves and he writes in such a way that it is difficult, if at all possible, to avoid looking squarely at who we are and how we became that.

In the end, the read is inspiring, absolutely uplifting and full of hope. There are miracles and moments that just cause your skin to bubble with goose bumps. This is a great read--don't miss it!

5.0 out of 5 stars IS REALITY RELATIVE?, January 24, 2010
By
This review is from: What Does That Mean?: Exploring Mind, Meaning, and Mysteries (Hardcover)
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? - A must read for any thinking person, questions if reality is only relative. According to Dr. Eldon Taylor's most thought provoking work to date, our perception of reality is ever in flux and is always relative to our conditioning, experiences, belief systems, our willingness to open our hearts and minds to new paradigms, and whether or not we live in fear or love. This autobiographical tale reveals how one of the most brilliant minds in America came to question reality and the value and purpose of our multilevel perceptions. Each new reality initiates a journey into a new trajectory of soul expansion, and more importantly brings one to the comprehension that we create our own realities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Use this book as a doorway to great conversations with everyone., April 26, 2010

This review is from: What Does That Mean?: Exploring Mind, Meaning, and Mysteries (Hardcover)
I've been a marriage and family therapist for thirty plus years, and this book has dramatically changed the way I work with clients.

When I read the statement that "The greatest guru can only ask the questions that will lead us inward to search for meaning", I realized that I needed to begin with the questions about what it might mean that they are where they are, and why they are doing what they are doing. It moves us to a much higher logical level immediately. Heart-felt solutions and new meanings and understandings of life experiences emerge quickly for all of us.

Clients take the question with them and stay at the higher level of open-ended questioning and delighted observation. It's like the "spiritual" scientific method.

Dr. Taylor allows us to walk with him through his own fascinating life of intelligent searching, observation and testing of beliefs and hypotheses. His own life experiences sound amazing, until you begin thinking of all of your own that are just as amazing and unexplainable.

The book has led me to ask people I meet (like the "complainer" in the next seat on the airplane), if they have ever had an experience that doesn't seem possible in the light of current scientific knowledge. It's fun, try it! Almost everyone has, and it leads to deeper and more interesting conversations about meaning.

Even my "digital native" nephews and nieces look me up for non-digital conversations at family gatherings!

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Changing, March 29, 2010
This review is from: What Does That Mean?: Exploring Mind, Meaning, and Mysteries (Hardcover)
While reading this book, I realized how much religious guilt I had been carrying around since childhood. Although I had been denying it for most of my life, I suddenly understood that I had literally and finally gotten rid of it! It was like taking a deep breath after being suffocated for years.

Thank you, Mr. Taylor, for writing this book and for your remarkable insight. I normally share my books with others but instead, I'll buy my friends their own copy. This is something I will be reading over and over again!

Easy to read, yet deals with deeply mystical/physical occurrences, that can be, or are, had by adverage, normal people during their lives. Very rewarding read.

The Complete Dream Book, 2nd edition: Discover What Your Dreams Reveal about You and Your Life

This enjoyable book from master storyteller Eldon Taylor is thought provoking and fun at the same time. It takes a truly wise person to have such a light, engaging touch while inviting you into questioning the limits of reality. Taylor recalls mysterious incidents in his life, including once when his life was saved inexplicably, as if he were somehow lifted out of the scene of an accident. His memories are so fascinating and well told, that they stand alone as fabulous stories, yet each one begs the question of taking another look at what we define as "real" and possible.

The chapters and essays are short and pithy, with such titles as: Airy Fairies, Whiny Wimps and Scandalous Shamans. His humor makes everything easy to take, and his style allows you to make up your own mind about miracles, coincidences, mysteries and most important of all: meaning. His message seems to be to trust yourself and to keep asking intelligent, open minded questions. Perhaps that is one of the most important things any of us can do.

It is nothing but a collection of disjointed ruminations on the meaning of life and other "deep" subjects like purpose, free will, courage, etc. There is no central theme other than that sometimes odd things happen that cannot be readily explained. Well, duh!!! The problem is the author does not bring any new insights to bear nor does he draw all the disparate elements into a unified whole. In addition, his constant insertion of the phrase "what does it mean?" after just about every paragraph quickly becomes tedious and annoying. For the serious student of metaphysics, there are hundreds of really interesting and worthwhile books out there. Don't waste your money on this hodge-podge written by a hack.
