Book Description

April 1997
Holly Faith Phillips spoke face to face with three quarters of a million men last year - the first woman ever invited to address each of thirteen Promise Keeper conferences held in major sports arenas and stadiums around the country. But she doesn't just speak; Holly also listens. Sensing her real heart for men, hundreds of guys have sought her personal counsel behind the scenes of this growing men's movement.

In What Does She Want from Me, Anyway? Holly Phillips reports on the questions she's heard men asking about the women in their lives. In responding to their questions, she provides them with practical strategies they can use to strengthen and enrich those relationships. With rare insight and compassion, Holly tells poignant stories of real men and women in pain and confusion and shows how we all can move toward understanding and healing. She also shares candidly about her own marriage and how it almost came to an end after dreams dissolved into disillusionment and love turned to anger and despair. We see how God helped break through the barriers in the Phillips' marriage to enable Holly and her husband, Randy, to begin to rebuild and restore their marriage into the remarkably strong, vital, and life-giving relationship it has become for both of them today.

Through her years of involvement with Promise Keepers, and in her own personal experience, Holly Phillips has seen and learned the need for honest, yet respectful communication between men and women. But how do we achieve such a lofty goal in such a lowly world - where it so often seems like men are from Mars and women are from Venus? By addressing the tough questions real men are asking - not the questions women think they should ask - this book will enable both men and women to sit down and hear and be heard. With love and leadership, Phillips demonstrates the all-important need for mutual respect and provides a blueprint showing us all how that respect can be attained.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breaks down barriers of misunderstandings., March 20, 2002

Although this book is written for men, I chose to read it anyway because of the interesting chapter titles. Being a woman, I understood completely what the author was saying. What I also began to realize is that these are the very things men don't understand about women. Likewise, women usually don't have a clue as to how vastly different a man is from her. Thus the gender wars. It would benefit every man to read this book and get an insight into what makes a woman tick. I can assure you it is right on target. After reading this book, I read one written for women called "Making Sense of the Men in Your Life" by Kevin Leman. Excellent book for covering the other half of the ground. I highly recommend "What does she want from me anyway?" And men... when you show your woman that you are making the effort to better understand her and meet her needs, you can graciously ask her if she would read the other book I mentioned to help her better understand you. You will be glad you did!

5.0 out of 5 stars Every man should read this one..., January 10, 2009
By
I read this book shortly after I became a Christian and while my marriage was in a very bad state. It awakened me to the misconceptions and misunderstandings I had as a husband about my wife. This book was the turning point for me in rescuing our marriage as I began to understand my wife better. Highly recommended for every man to read!
