Editorial Reviews

Product Description

The follow-up to their debut, "Trying To Never Catch Up" is an album that, from start to finish, stands as a singular piece of art by a band hitting their stride. "Who's Next - 10 bands to look out for next year" - Magnet. "Positively exuberant, teeming with squiggly keys, extroverted hooks, and brightly anthemic guitar, all grounded by Michael Kingcaid's mellifluous croon" - Spin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic follow up album, April 6, 2008
Great follow up album to Trying to Never Catch Up. I'm still amazed that these guys go unnoticed by so many. Great album from start to finish with the exception of Middle of the Night which I wasn't fond of. Sultan, Cheap Wine, Prevailing Wind, and The Other Side all have the makings of huge hits.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great follow up album..., April 3, 2008
I first caught this band on ACL what seems like ages ago. It has been a done deal from that day. Their debut album was one of my top albums of the decade and their sophomore follow up (a long time over-due) is as powerful as their first. If you judge bands by their albums, and not by their singles or radio play then this band will not let you down. Indie rock through and through with sprinkles of influences from such bands as the Beatles, Spoon, and Jeff Buckley are apparent. Kincaid's vox are spot on and the band as a whole have improved their cohesiveness...buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great follow-up album; possibly better than the first., March 29, 2008

I'm not a professional music critic in any capacity, but rather simply a big fan of WMMF. As said fan, I had very high expectations for the new album and WMMF did not disappoint. "Cheap Wine" is a favorite track for me and my friends that were not previously familiar with WMMF also seem drawn to this song. Michael Kingcaid's self-proclaimed favorite, "Self-Destruct" became a lot more powerful for me after seeing it preformed live. The only track that I don't connect with for some reason is, "To Each His Own," but the guys seem to be performing it live with some frequency, so it is probably just me.

Again, I don't know much about music beyond knowing what makes me want to crank up the volume and belt out lyrics in the car, but if you already loved WMMF, I think you will be very happy with "What Doesn't Kill Us." Enjoy!
