Amazing Straight-Forward Hard Rock Album:, September 20, 2010
This review is from: What Doesn't Kill Us (Audio CD)
Panic Cell is an amazing band that I discovered by accident on Youtube. After hearing a few of their songs, I quickly purchased this album and Bitter Part of Me. This is my favorite of the two albums. The production on this album is great. The song arrangements are just about perfect in length and substance. Choruses are very smooth (from a hard rock perspective) and repeated in sufficient quantity but not ad nauseum.
Musically I classify this as hard rock. There are some 'influences' of Metallica in it (I mainly listen to death metal so can't think of a lot of other bands it compares to). The singing is clear (no growls, rarely does it escalate to screams), easy to understand, and the singer has a good range that fits the tone of the songs (compare Dead to Me, Fallen and Walk Away). There is a hint of blues in this, and exceptionally catchy (but not overly commercial sounding) guitar riffs. The bass is fairly prominent and really complements/completes the guitars. The drumming is well-arranged and the drummer mixes it up well within each song.
This is a great album, and months later still continues to get a lot of play on my IPod. It's great for working out, or just rocking out. I'll finish out my Panic Cell collection soon ... this band has definitely moved onto my "buy there stuff, no questions asked" list. They are *that* good!
