Readers who love Nora Roberts, Kay Hooper, and Lisa Gardner will enjoy this novel of romantic suspense with a touch of the paranormal by bestselling author Tina Wainscott (aka Jaime Rush).

A lonely woman looking for love on the Internet. A man with dark secrets. And murder amid the madness of New Orleans Mardi Gras, where no one is what they seem, and evil is only a whisper away.

Tina has unforgettable female protagonists and action-packed, almost haunting plotlines. – Janet Evanovich New York Times bestselling author

Rita Brooks has her life in control, with a satisfying job and an Internet relationship with a man a safe distance away. But before she can meet Brian LaPorte in person, Rita is nearly killed in a horrific car accident. She emerges from a coma remembering a cryptic message given to her by another soul. When Brian’s brother, Christopher, shows up, demanding to know what part she played in his suicide attempt, she’s sure that soul was Brian. To make sense of his urgent message, she must go to New Orleans.

Christopher is the shadow to Brian’s light, everything that intimidates … and draws her. Unfortunately, she needs his help, because Brian had shadows, too, and someone is trying to kill her to keep those shadows secret. Amidst the chaotic revelry of Mardi Gras, she is plunged into a bizarre masquerade where masks conceal dark secrets, deep longings … and murderous intent.

From the Author

I've always loved the combination of romance and suspense. Having just one or the other doesn't do it for me. Almost all of my twenty-eight books and five novellas twist both of those elements together, because nothing complements falling in love better than being hunted down, right?

My goal as a writer is to create books that make people feel good. My characters come with baggage, pasts hurts, and vulnerabilities. They go through hell, find love, and at the end, find peace in who they are and everything they've gone through. And isn't that what we all want?

My earlier books also twined in a dash of paranormal. Soul-changing second chances play the catalyst for UNTIL I DIE AGAIN, STRANGER IN THE MIRROR, and WOKE UP DEAD. The question of where our souls go when we're in a coma kicks off WHAT SHE DOESN'T KNOW. And psychic connections play into UNFORGIVABLE and TOUCHED BY LIGHTNING. I jumped into the paranormal with both feet in the Offspring series (Avon Books), an X-Files meets LOST mix with lots of action and romance, changing my name to Jaime Rush (] to distinguish them. I'm thrilled to be starting a new series, The Hidden, at Grand Central Publishing, with Dragons, Angels, and magick.
For those who like their romantic suspense supernatural-free, check out:

And a brand new series that kicks off with an e-short, WILD HEARTS, Jan 6, 2014, from Random House and WILD ON YOU Feb 3.
When five Navy SEALs take the fall for a covert mission gone wrong, this kick-butt brotherhood joins The Justiss Alliance, a private agency that exacts justice outside the law.

5.0 out of 5 stars What She Dosen't Know July 23, 2005
A Kid's Review
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This was the first Tina Wainscott I ever read and I have gone on to read every single one since!! This was great!

*****Dr.Rita Brooks is on her way home, when suddenly a car speeds up beside her and knocks her off the road resulting in her ending up in a coma for 5 days. While she is in the 'grey place' she is visited by Brian LaPorte-a guy she met on online-he percedes to show her some images from his life and tells her that it wasn't an accident. What wasn't an accident?? When she comes to, she is told that someone deliberately ran her off the road. Does she have any info concerning this?

A few days later she is visited by Christopher LaPorte. He informs her that his brother -Brian- is in a coma, from trying to jump off a roof. He thinks she knows something and is not telling. He says to call him if she thinks of something. Finally she decides to go to New Orleans, to try to figure out who tried to murder Brian. Fate throws Chris and Rita together, and passion flares. While in New Orleans they are confronted by a killer who will stop at nothing to wash away the evidience. Happily ever after...or not. Mystery, suspense, and a dash of romance. Who can resist?

I would recommend buying this book at a used bookstore instead of amazon. (It's cheaper).

5.0 out of 5 stars What She Doesn't Know Book December 23, 2007
By L. Pino
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
Excellent book, suspenseful, a definite page turner. This book is among the many outstanding books by Tina Wainscott. I have read several books by her, and absolutely loved each one. The story enfolds with a woman who finds love on the internet, and in her search to meet the man she has come to know in writing, gets drawn into intrigue and murder during Mardi Gras. I didn't guess who the culprit was, and I am usually very good at doing so. Highly recommend all of her books. Received in perfect condition, and quick and easy transaction.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing... October 13, 2005
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I don't normally write reviews, but I felt I had to for this one. It wasn't a terrible book, it just wasn't that good. Halfway through I had to force myself to keep picking it up and read to the end. Even with the touch of paranormal to make it interesting, it still fell flat. I read "Now You See Me" and thought this one would be as good. I was wrong. In addition, the ending was a total let down. The conclusion was rushed, and felt forced, like she ran out of "oomph". If I hadn't already bought "I'll Be Watching You", I wouldn't read any more of her books. I hope that one is better.

5.0 out of 5 stars strong paranormal romantic suspense September 29, 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
French Quarter hotel manager Brian LaPorte and Boston based psychiatrist Rita Brooks meet over the Internet when he showed interest in a dagger she was selling. They exchanged email and started to talk about meeting as the two were falling in love, but Rita delayed this because of her fears of intimate relationships. Not long afterward a car purposely crashes into Rita's vehicle; four days later she comes out of the coma.

Rita sends an email to Brian asking why he stopped communicating with her. Instead of a response, Brian's estranged brother Christopher arrives to learn what Rita's relationship was with his sibling, who apparently tried to kill himself by jumping off a ledge. Rita finds out that Brian is in a coma and believes he "visited" her when they both were comatose to warn her and to insist he was pushed. Rita goes to New Orleans with Mardi Gras just beginning to investigate Brian's fall. Christopher joins up with her although he thinks she is lying; neither expected to fall in love nor anticipate the danger from a seemingly safe source.

This paranormal romantic suspense is a strong tale that hooks readers with the opening confrontation in "Xanadu" until the final climax. Readers know who pushed Brian and the threat to Rita from the beginning but that just adds tension as the audience worries about the stubborn courageous heroine who has no allies even Christopher although she falls in love with him. Readers will appreciate this dark terse thriller.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read with a touch of the paranormal October 16, 2004

Dr. Rita Brooks is a psychologist who has a few hang ups of her own. Her nose bleeds when she is confronted by strong forceful men. Something due to her relationship with her father. She lives in Boston. She meets a seemingly gentle, considerate, gentleman on-line.

Brian La Porta lives in New Orleans and runs a hotel. He has tried to convince Rita to come and meet him. As the story opens he catches someone in his house and follows them up to the roof where he is pushed off, he winds up in a coma. A day later Rita is run off the road and almost killed, she winds up in a coma. Although they have never met somehow they recognize each other in the grey place both have come to. Brian touches Rita and passes some memories to her.

Christopher LaPorta comes to Boston after finding an e-mail from Rita to Brian, everyone thinks Brian tried to commit suicide, Rita knows he was pushed. She doesn't know who did it and is reluctant to tell anyone about her experience. Rita refuses to talk to chris about the 4 days she was in a coma. HE tells her Brian has been in a coma for 6 weeks.

Finally realizing someone tried to kill her and knowing someone pushed Brian off the roof, Rita heads to New Orleans. Eventually Chris and Rita have to discover the secrets Brian has been keeping. As more of the memories she received from Brian surface, they realize there is a killer loose at Marti Gras.
