Raven Rating 5
Blog Review For: Great Minds Think Aloud

"What She Doesn't Know" by Lina Gardiner was a good suspense, mystery and even some romance read. This is really a action pack novel. It definitely kept me reading to see what was going to happen next.

"What She Doesn't Know" was of that was full of plots twists, secret societies and passageways. With the heroine (Raven Delacoeur Gale) having had amnesia, a librarian, a very annoying person at times, and a hero ... (Sloan Brockway) who has been in love with Raven for many years....taking her into danger that would find the hidden treasure (the artifact) that was needed to be found....... Sloan wanted Raven to have all the facts about her parents.. ..being a member of the protectorate(a secret organization).. What were they protecting? Why were they being chased by the (Jason Brimm's men... (some greedy thugs) and what did they want? Why did they want Raven dead or did they want her dead? What would happen when she found out that Sloan was related to her dead husband? What connection to all of this was about her parents and her uncle Phil? Now to answer these questions and many ... you will have to pick up this good read to find out the answers and much more.

This novel was very fascinating and the characters really helped make this an interesting and a few likable ones like ..Raven, Sloan, Johnson Carver, Uncle Phil to unlikable ones....Barry, Victor(Davey O'Riley), Mike, Preston and there are a few more I probably have left out.

"What She Doesn't Know" was indeed a well absorbing read and I would recommend this one a good read.

It has been a long time since I read a book with so many errors in grammar and mechanics (repeated words, words left out, etc.) I don't know how something this poorly written gets published. As far as the story, it was full of holes. Too many things were left unexplained. There was no satisfying ending. The whole premise of the story(search for hidden artifacts) did not interest me. Just a big disappointment on so many levels!

Who would suspect so much mystery, suspense, and love could be crammed into such a short novel! What She Doesn't Know throbs with adrenaline-pumping action and breathtaking emotion from start to finish.

When the reclusive, somewhat cowed-down Raven Gale decides to put her doubts to rest about the death of her abusive husband, she goes to Haart Island in the Bay of Fundy and unintentionally stirs up a hornet's nest.

Diagnosed with traumatic amnesia after the death of her parents, Raven has blocked out much of her life. Since the death of her Uncle Phil, who raised her after her parent's death, she never expects to know what happened during those years. The emotional journey Raven takes is heart-wrenching, plus her inability to trust makes her journey even more treacherous and miserable. As her true nature emerges and she seems to grow some backbone, I couldn't help but celebrate her victory.

Sloan Brockway, an undercover operative for the Protectorate, a secret organization, is neck deep in an investigation. He's in a hot bed of gangsters in the house on Haart Island when the naïve Raven shows up, forced along at gunpoint by the irascible Captain Mike. Sloan and Raven have a history that she doesn't remember, but he does--big time!Sloan never falters in his determination to complete his mission but his need to keep Raven safe adds danger that almost costs him his life.

What She Doesn't Know is action packed. The pace doesn't slow as Sloan and Raven outmanuever the gangsters who want to see them dead. Nor does it lag during the search for a mysterious relic. This book had me turning pages like crazy to see what happened next.

The secondary characters have a tremendous impact on both Sloan and Raven.

I really enjoyed this novel. It was quick and suspenseful. I did find Raven to be a little annoying at times, especially in the beginning. I just thought she seemed to be too eager to leave when she came all that way and really had no idea what was happening. Read the rest of this review here:[...]

What She Doesn't Know is a unique mix of Raiders of the Lost Ark and a tale written by Joan Wilder from Romancing the Stone. Shy Raven gathers her courage to face what she thinks is her husband who had tried to kill her. Gardiner makes the choice of going to that remote island in the Bay of Fundy perfectly logical, and I found myself really rooting for Raven.
But the man who is playing her husband has his own secrets. Sloan Brockway belongs to a society that protects very unique artifacts. Raven finds herself falling in love with him, although she knows he's not her husband, nor is he totally honest with her. Again, Gardiner weaves vulnerability and resolve into her heroine as the pair begin to unravel a secret and work out whether or not they can create their own happy ending.
A wonderful, exciting tale that takes the reader to an island so well described, you can feel the mist on your face as you read it.
