Editorial Reviews

From the Author

When my mother was turning 65 she had questions about how she should enroll into Medicare, unfortunately, at the time I was unaware of what Medicare entailed and how it affected not only her financial savings, but also her Social Security benefit as well.
Through her experience, which at times was painful to her both physically and financially, I quickly learned that as a supposed financial professional I, along with practically everyone else in the financial industry, truly had no real understanding of what retirement really was.
To quote a recent review of the book from Mary Beth Franklin of Investment News "At some point decades in the future, aging baby boomers and their financial advisers may look back and wonder why they didn't heed today's warnings laid out in "What You Don't Know About Retirement Will Hurt You!".
We would like to thank you for the time and any considerations you may have given to this book and do hope that you find the information valuable in your financial plans.

If you've evolved beyond an invincible, self-absorbed twenty something, this book is worth your attention. The authors have done their homework and produced a convenient, digestible work that serves as a valuable resource on the complexities of health care in retirement. They make a strong case that informed strategy and planning are needed well before retirement age and illustrate the coupling between Medicare and Social Security that is typically neglected. Perhaps most useful are the citations they provide for the requirements and figures presented which allow the reader to verify and keep current as policies change in the future.

If you want to make sure your retirment goes as planned, you have to read this book. We assist many clients approaching retirement with financial plans to ensure they do not run out of money. This book has changed our approach to our financial models and we think this will add thousands of dollars back into our clients pockets. It's not what you earn but what you keep!!!
We all work very hard to ensure we have enough money in retirement and this book illustrates the smartest ways Americans can take distributions from their retirement accounts.

The entire concept of "planning for retirement" is uprooted and left raw for analysis in this book. The knowledgable writers, all highly qualified professionals in their fields, remind readers with real-world applications and research, that no one is safe from the burdens or complexities of healthcare plans, Social Security, and Medicare. The [likely outdated] "reference materials" seen on bookshelves will not embrace the current realities of what we are up against as this book successfully outlines. This resource dissects several controversial items which must be discussed with a qualified advisor - one who will not only protect client's financial interests, but will also ensure their future well-being through healthcare options. It is without reservation that I recommend this resource to anyone seeking ways to protect their own future as well as the lives of those they love.

The information in this book provides new perspectives on financial planning to maximizes retirement income after taxes and Medicare surcharges for pre-retirees in the asset accumulation phase and retirees in the drawdown phase. There are number of modifications to the standard financial plans that should be considered in view of this information. The use of insurance products and annuities appears to be over stressed. It is important to have a financial advisor who is current with law changes that affect retirement matters.
