Book Description

2 and upP and upWhat to Expect Kids
Growing Up Just Got Easier...

With the help of Angus, the lovable Answer Dog, best-selling author Heidi Murkoff extends a hand to children and parents as they tackle life's first experiences together.

It's hard to believe, but your child's starting preschool. Even if it's just for a couple of hours two or three days a week, it seems such a big step for someone in such little sneakers. Not to worry -- we're here to help prepare both of you for that step. We'll answer your child's questions about what preschool is like, what preschoolers do, who teachers are, and how they help to make preschool such a fun and special place -- so that the first day of preschool will be a day you'll both look forward to.

Have fun!

Heidi and Angus

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

reS-Angus the Answer Dog returns to answer questions about the school experience. Queries center on teachers, the classroom, rules, circle time, snacks, and the bathroom. While the title is colorfully illustrated, the text may be somewhat wordy for this audience. However, adults sharing it with youngsters can modify the text according to individual children's needs while using the engaging watercolors as reference points. There is a helpful introduction for parents. Concrete information to inform and/or relieve preschool jitters.

From Booklist

Ages 2-5. Written by a coauthor of the classic What to Expect When You're Expecting (1984), this is the latest in the What to Expect Kids series, featuring Angus, the lovable advice dog. The "Q-and-A" format that is so successful in the series' other titles works well once again as Angus reassuringly answers such questions as "What will my classroom look like?" "Will my mommy or daddy stay with me?" "What happens at circle time?" and "Who will I play with?" Each page features an activity or idea to help prepare children for their new experience: "Look around your room," for example. "Do you see some of the things you'll see in your classroom?" Also provided is advice for parents on how to ready themselves for this big milestone. Friendly watercolor illustrations depict children having lots of fun at school. A must-have guide. This review is from: What to Expect at Preschool (What to Expect Kids) (Hardcover)
This is a well-written and thoughtful book, but it's a bit wordy and factual for the early (2 1/2 - 3 year-old) preschool set. Probably better for child who is starting preschool at age 3 1/2 - 4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great at preparing for preschool, August 1, 2004
This review is from: What to Expect at Preschool (What to Expect Kids) (Hardcover)
We got this for my two year old who will be starting preschool in about a month. He loved this book and is so excited about going to preschool. He has to pack his backpack and a pretend lunch every morning then he carries his backpack around all day! It answers all the questions kids might have about preschool and it doesn't talk about being scared of going to school which most books do and we don't want him to expect to be scared so this book is perfect!

5.0 out of 5 stars great for my son at 3yrs, March 25, 2004

My son, who has Autism, likes this book! It helped with preparing him for preschool. (which he started one day after turning 3) It is written like a social story. I did have to adjust the text a little while reading it..his class is all boys and they don't play outside. He really likes the page "What is a teacher" and "will Mommy and Daddy stay with me". It brought up things I did not think to tell him..like he would have a cubby of his own. He still likes to read this book after being in preschool for a couple weeks.
