5.0 out of 5 stars Right On The Money September 3, 2012

This is hilarious! After having one kid and with another on the way I can say that this movie is right on the money. They were somehow able to capture the funny and sometimes disgusting aspects of pregnancy without cheapening the miracle of having a baby. They show Cameron Diaz as the celebrity pregnancy, Jennifer Lopez vying for adoption, Brooklyn Decker as the trophy wife having twins, Anna Kendrick "Rosie" as the one night stand, and Elizabeth Banks with the super-planned pregnancy. When I first saw the trailer for the movie I laughed until I cried, and now having seen the movie, I am not disappointed. P.S. It's a husband friendly movie - mine sure enjoyed it.

"I just wanted the glow. The one that they promise you on the cover of those magazines. Well, I'm calling it - pregnancy sucks. Making a human being is really hard. I have no control over my body or my emotions." This is a movie based off the famous book and deals with five different couples and how they handle pregnancy ranging from problems trying to adopt to having a sickeningly easy time giving birth. This is yet another movie dealing with many different couples and relationship problems but this is one of the better ones. I have said before that I am not really a fan of this type of genre but I really enjoyed this movie and laughed throughout. It may be because I have a kid and went through the whole pregnancy thing with my wife but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie. I am also really shocked at my favorite movies of the last few weeks. I have really enjoyed "Think Like A Man" and "Five-Year Engagement" and once again I think this "chick-flick" is the best movie of the week. I am not sure what that says about me but there are some really funny parts in this and if you are a woman do not be afraid about bringing this home to your man, he may throw a fit at first but the comedy (and Cameron Diaz's opening dance scene) will keep him watching and he will also enjoy it. I know I did...the dance was amazing though. Overall, a surprisingly funny movie that really won me over and I thought that was great. I (again surprisingly) give this an A.

5.0 out of 5 stars Put them all together, they spell "M-O-T-H-E-R" June 14, 2013
Format:DVD
What to Expect when you're Expecting hits a home run from the title on. Like Sex and the Single Girl in the 1960s, Hollywood can't resist a self help book of any kind--that's nearly all they read there--so they buy the rights to the title and then invent a plot or narrative to give moviegoers perhaps more of a treat. Woody Allen made Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (*But Were Afraid to Ask) into a sort of Laugh-In of brief sight gags and sketches. Even Mean Girls started out as a self=help book. So, it's a whole genre filled with built-in history. We speculated that the screenwriters of Expecting originally envisioned the whole movie initially as the full length story of Cameron Diaz and Matthew Morrison's characters, a reality TV trainer and a professional dancer, but actually as the movie wore on I got to dislike it every time they showed up with their story about whether or not their son should get circumcized. Mr. Shoe wanted it, but Cameron Diaz no way. It was a story that never made sense, well maybe it made sense but it is executed as though it were a heavy issue, like the passion of Christ in an Ingmar Bergman film. Anyhow, Mr. Shoe had enough scenes so he must have felt like he was still playing Shue in the old days when he was married to that deceptive lying wife of his on Glee.

We did notice a lot of gay leading men in this movie! Most of them were able to play heterosexuals more or less adequately. Maybe when the Cameron Diaz plot was getting too grim, producers thought they might as well have a second string to their bow and they asked Elizabeth Banks to come on and play a gorgeous woman with a schlubby dentist husband (Ben Falcone).

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious Comedy June 12, 2013
Format:Amazon Instant Video
Inspired by the perennial New York Times bestseller of the same name, What To Expect When You're Expecting is a hilarious and heartfelt big screen comedy about five couples whose intertwined lives are turned upside down by the challenges of impending parenthood. Rated PG-13 for crude and sexual content, thematic elements and language, one of our KIDS FIRST! youth film critics, Raven Devanney (age 14) reviewed it this week and "laughed through this whole movie!" Here's her review:
What To Expect When You're Expecting
Review by Raven D, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic

What To Expect When You're Expecting completely met my expectations. It's the hilarious comedy that follows five couples on their way to becoming parents. It features the wonderful talent of Chris Rock, Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks and many other A-listers.

I laughed through this whole movie! The comedy is on point and hilarious and the acting is fantastic. I love that it is from the perspective of many different couples who have different stories and views on what they are going through.

My favorite character is Wendy, played by Elizabeth banks, because she has such an organized plan of how her pregnancy and labor will go but she ends up having an extremely difficult pregnancy. She tries to pull herself together, but she falls apart and it is hilarious.

My favorite scene is actually when Wendy has her breaking point. It's so funny! I also love that they have the dad's club in this movie because it shows the wacky perspective of a father on parenting and all of the dad scenes made me laugh so hard my stomach hurt.

I suggest this movie for ages 13 and up because of mature content and language. Overall I give What To Expect When You're Expecting 5 out of 5 stars.
