5.0 out of 5 stars What Happens vs. What Is March 8, 2007
Format:Paperback
I used Fr. Driscoll's book as a basis for a formation program for my parish. His clear writing enabled clear presentations and helped me "stay on track". Just the whole idea of "what happens" vs. "what is" is, in itself, worthy of a true catechetical presentation. The reaction of parishioners has been very positive. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to love the Mass even a little bit more. It should be required reading for RCIA programs.

Format:Paperback
This book is so excellent and potentially life-changing that I bought a case of them! I give them to parishioners/friends/family, etc. who struggle with understanding the Mass or who complain that it "is boring!" You will never be bored again once you realize and understand what truly happens at each and every Mass! Thank you Father Driscoll for such a wonderful book that I have used to catechize so many people. It serves as the basis also for my annual presentation on the Mass for RCIA. You would be amazed at the number of "cradle Catholics" on the RCIA team each year who come up to me afterwards and say "I never knew that!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book! November 28, 2006
Format:Paperback
This book was highly recommended by a professor. It has been a great find. Not only is the book very accessible and great for teaching anyone from children to RCIA candidates about the Mass, but it is also rich enough to give anyone a deeper understanding of the Mass. It is always within reach and used constantly as a reference. This is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it to you.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not REVISED edition. July 30, 2012
By ann f
Format:Paperback
I have re-rated it, since it's an outdated edition.
Get the revised one from 2011. Sold all over on the internet for $12.95. Including from the current publisher. Type in "What Happens at Mass revised". This is an excellent book. It is better then most other books out there on the mass. I run a parish library so I get lots of feedback. This book is by far the most popular. The problem is this is NOT the REVISED version being sold by LTP Liturgy Training Publications for $12.95 on the internet. So fellow catholics, if you want the book "What Happens at Mass" revised edition by Jeremy Driscoll, with the NEW 2011 LITURGY (MASS) CHANGES don't purchase this copy. This is the ATMASS copy, not the ATMASS2 copy.
If you want this just as a collector book, go ahead and buy it.
Onto the review: it has 5 chapters: Laying the Groundwork, Introductory Rites, The Liturgy of the Word, The Preparation of the Altar and Gifts, The Eucharist Prayer, Communion and The Dismissal Rite. I can say more about Jeremy's book but many of the other reviews already state it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Lay Readers July 28, 2012
By BLB
Format:Paperback
I've read this book on my own and also attended a class in which it was used as the discussion text. It's excellent for either use. The writing is straightforward without being watered down, moving through the Order of the Mass and explaining what happens in each part. I would highly recommend it for anyone who does not know how to get themselves interested in the Mass. The author is also very well qualified to have written the book, as he has been a consultor to the Congregation for Divine Worship at the Vatican since 2005. He knows whereof he speaks!
