Book Description

After faking his own death, Kal Hakala is free of the Bureau of Supernatural Investigation and can finally focus his energy on destroying the monster that murdered his sister. With the help of trusted former teammates, he embarks on a quest to find an artifact to activate a magical Tesla Coil, the only device powerful enough to kill a legend. But wherever Kal goes, trouble isn't far behind. It's not easy to locate an artifact without alerting the BSI. Kal narrows his search to Las Vegas, where he and his friends encounter the greatest peril ever to threaten our world--a threat found only in Sin City but rooted in World War II Germany, site of the past's most heinous crimes. Can Kal overcome an enemy so diabolical, so evil, that annihilating millions is merely one phase of its master plan? The task seems impossible, but for Kal Hakala, the best agent in the BSI's history, the impossible only requires patience and careful planning. Patience is not Kal's strong suit.

About the Author

Born in Helsinki, Finland, Mark Everett Stone arrived in the U.S. at a young age and promptly dove into the world of the fantastic. Starting at age seven with the Iliad and the Odyssey, he went on to consume every scrap of Norse Mythology he could get his grubby little paws on. At age thirteen he graduated to Tolkien and Heinlein, building up a book collection that soon rivaled the local public library's. In college Mark majored in Journalism and minored in English. Mark s first book, Things to Do in Denver When You re Un-Dead, was published by Camel Press in July of 2011. The Judas Line will be released in 2012. Mark lives in Denver with his amazingly patient wife, Brandie, and their two sons, Aeden and Gabriel. You can find Mark on the Web at markeverettstone.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second book better than the first! December 9, 2011
Format:Paperback
After faking his own death in order to leave the BSI, Kal has gathered some former teammates and started working on a plan to take down Iku-Turso, the Class Five Supernatural who killed his sister all those years ago. In his quest to find an Artifact of power to use to power the magical Tesla Coil, he stumbles across a real mess in Las Vegas - an evil dating from WWII, which is seeking to find the strength in modern times to change the course of history. Can Kal find a way to stop it? And can he finally find a way to destroy Iku-Turso?

This is the second book in the BSI series, which is shaping up to be a great series. I was very happy to see Canton Alsate make a repeat appearance as one of Kal's team. The plot in this one is unrelenting and had as many twists as a road over a mountain pass - I loved it! We also get more of Kal's parents and I love the development that is put into Stone's characters. This is definitely a new favorite series and I am quite looking forward to the third book, "I Left my Haunt in San Francisco." There is no date given for this next book, but considering the first two came out within six months of one another, I'm hoping we'll see the next one similarly quickly. Check this great new series out - you won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing sequel to Things to do in Denver! November 15, 2011
Format:Paperback
If you like a book that will grab a hold of you and never let go, then What Happens in Vegas, Dies in Vegas is the book for you. Stone weaves a tale of the Bureau of Supernatural Investigations (BSI to the lay person) and their fight to protect all of us from the forces of evil that leak into our world from the World Under. Think Men In Black but only instead of aliens whose heads grow back, imagine a demon with several heads full of teeth wanting to eat your face off. Throw in a bad-ass agent named Kal Hakala, willing and able to tackle the worst the World Under has to regurgitate out at us, and you have the making of a hell of a story!

Vegas begins where Denver left off...sort of. Things have changed, there's some new faces (and they are totally awesome faces, I might add) and Kal isn't exactly on the best of terms with the BSI. But that little speedbump isn't going to stop Kal from going after the evil god that killed his sister. No sir! With a little help from his friends, Kal will go on a journey that will take him from Sin City back in time to WWII Germany, then back to the present to finally confront the evil that has plagued his nightmares since he was boy.

Vegas is non-stop action that will leave you with whiplash when you finally finish the last sentence, splashed with plenty of sarcasm, fight scenes that made me melt into the back of the couch while holding my Kindle as far away as I could and still be able to read the words (they were THAT realistic and awesome!). I think I may have even squinted a little. And like a story-telling pro, Stone leaves you gasping for breath by the end and of course, enjoys taunting the reader with a third book in the series! Which I will be waiting anxiously to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow. Just Wow. October 12, 2012
By Patroo
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've now added Mark Everett Stone to my list of "must" authors, right next to Richard Kadrey and Larry Correia. His characters are incredible, the plots original, and the whole thing rocks. I can't wait to finish this one and read its predecessor. The only little thing I am not crazy about are the changing points of view for telling the story. Each character gets a turn onstage and you learn what's happening with regard to themselves.

My favorite character is "Ghost," a human who has committed himself to the aether and exists solely as an electronic entity, with great mobility and incredible hacking skills. So far he's communicated primarily via cell phone, though it is interesting to learn that if you time travel back to WWII Europe, your cell phone will still work well enough to let Ghost give you information. Before you do this yourself, confirm what your roaming plan includes.

I got this as a free book, and it has been one of the most fantastic freebies yet. Mr. Stone, please write and publish with all dispatch!
