God always seems to come through. As old dreams have had to be left, and my life seems to be a blank slate for the future, the Lord answered my heart's cry of, "NOW WHAT, God??" with this book. It could not have come at a better time, but then, God knew that.

Mrs. Terkeurst has written an encouraging, thought provoking book for those of us stepping out(somtimes unwillingly) into uncharted wilderness. I am a visual learner, and her straight forward writing style, stories and analogies are easy for me to mentally "see" thus making the concepts easier to grasp. This and her book Radically Obedient, Radically Blessed are two of my all time favorites. Mrs. Terkeurst, bless you, my dear.

Has God given you a dream or desire to be more for Him or be used by Him in ministry, yet, it just doesn't seem to be happening? I know I've been there. Actually, I spent a lot of years there, and it has only been recently that God started moving on my desire. Oh, how I wish I would have read this book sooner.

Lysa TerKeurst's "What Happens When Women Walk in Faith" is a book about following your God-given dreams, yet it is about so much more. In her book, Lysa equips us with the encouragement and knowledge to "keep on keeping on" when life's disappointments and distractions try to come between us and God's plan for our lives. The whole premise of the book is that God gives us dreams tailored for our own talents and His purposes. But just like the Israelites, we must grow and overcome giants to get to our promised lands. The bad news is that there is no short cut (just grow quickly) to the grand prize; however, the good news is the best part of the whole process is the process. The process is where we dig down deep and not only grow, but develop strong relationships with God. God is our grand prize, not the fulfillment of our dreams.

Well, if only it were that easy. Lysa knows the real task is enduring the process and not letting Satan steal us from our calling, thus the "5 Phases of Faith". Lysa's 5 Phases of Faith came out of common phases she found in Bible stories of people who stepped out in faith, such as the stories of Abraham, Moses, and Joshua. It consists of the following phases:

"Leaving-In order to go to a new level with God, you've got to leave the old behind;

Famine-In this new place, you'll realize your comfort zone is gone, and you'll learn to depend on God like never before;

Believing-You've always wanted to really believe God, but now your experience of Him becomes too real to deny;

Death: Coming to the end of your ability to make things happen seems like death to you, but to God, this is the only way to new life with Him.

Resurrection: In a way only he could, God makes your dream come true. Only then do you understand that real joy isn't in the dream itself but rather in the richer faith you acquired along the way." (pg. 10)

Lysa's own ministry began with a dream, but it didn't just go from dream to reality. No, she also had to go through the 5 phases in order to become the woman, writer, speaker, teacher, business woman she is today. This is what I like best about Lysa; she is not shy about sharing her experiences, even her dirty laundry, in order to lead others into a stronger relationship with Christ. I also like how she gets us to look at the same Bible stories we have read time and time again with new eyes. I will never look at the stories of Abraham, Moses, and Joshua the same again, and I bet you won't either after reading this book.

I definitely think this is a must read for all Christian women. I just can't say enough good things. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. I would like to leave you with my favorite lines in the whole book,

"God is good. He is way more interested in developing our characters to match our calling than manipulating our circumstances to make us happy." (pg.149)

What Happens When Women Walk in Faith: Trusting God Takes You to Amazing Places. Every women faces obstacles that would keep her from God's best. In moving forward, discouragement and fatigue can seem to overwhelm at times. Lysa Terkeurst shares five phases she has identified in the Bible common to people who have stepped out with God in pursuit of their dream. Examples from Biblical characters are given in how they challenged those phases. As you better understand these phases of faith you can avoid undue discouragement and defeat.
Lysa Terkeurst's ministry today(Proverbs 31 Ministries), along with her writing and public speaking engagements, began with a dream but the journey involved a process. It is in the "process" that she will teach you , that will mold your character, strip you of your agenda, and you will learn the most about God and His faithfulness. To enter the new you will shed the old and find yourself in a famine phase where you have to depend on God and not allow the distractions of barrenness to thwart you. In the midst of trials you will experience the hand of God. Through Biblical character accounts, along with the author's personal experiences, you will learn the good and bad mistakes and how to prevent yourself from "going around the mountain" over and over.
As God plans your unique preparation for your assignment, the fourth phase- the death phase- will eventually bring about new life. Lysa Terkeurst says it best:" This is not our defeat; this is your valley in the shadow of the mountain your soul longs to climb- a mountain of greater faith and closer intimacy with God than you ever thought possible.". There, it makes us people who can accept the accolades of resurrection without pride. The finality of resurrection, God's dream planted in us coming to fruition, will confirm in our hearts that it was only by His hand and grace, and not our efforts that made this happen. If you wait for what your heart desires, you treasure it more when you finally get it.
When you read this book you will gain an in-depth understanding of where you are today in route to where you will be heading. It will encourage you to press on and not think it strange when all support appears to be absent. Lysa Terkeurst wasn't promoted overnight, and neither will you be.

Never forget that God's heart is not for people to strut in the limelight but for them to become intimate with Him and hear the cries of the forgotten. Partnering with Him and doing things in secret for others with courage is a high reward inwardly here, and outwardly in eternity.

Love this book, I use it as a devotional every morning because at the end of each chapter it has a study guide. Very encouraging but very down to Earth real. It opens your eyes to the fact that God does things His way and not your way. If you read the bible sometimes but don't know where to start, this is a great guide to follow and do your bible reading with purpose. Definitely would recommend it.

I read this book a couple of years ago and just loved it. Now I am teaching a Bible Study group using this book...everyone loves it and I can see the growth. Now the group members are telling everyone they know about this book and giving it as gifts. Hint...some of the men are following the principals/scriptures in the book too and they are growing in their "faith walk" and their relationship with the Lord. This is a must read for everyone!!! I ordered a dozen the first time and now I am getting ready to order another six for the new people that have joined my group. Thank you Lysa for being obedient to the Lord and thank you Lord for this book!!! P.S. I am making plans to teach from her next book.

I am doing this book as part of OBS right now. It's as though the author is writing about my life. All the parts of the book may not apply to everyone, but I think the principles are good to take a look at.
She uses a lot of scripture throughout each chapter, and I think that's really important. This has been an amazing time for this book to come into my life. I'm so thankful!

This is an excellent book. It has helped me during a difficult time and I found it extremely easy to read, straightforward and has strengthened my walk with God. I am going to re-read it because there are several things I want to remember and to review the study portion of the book. I can recommend any of Lysa's books to women who are seeking God or looking to strengthen their faith and daily walk with Him. As a Biblical counselor, I would use this to encourage any of the ladies that I counsel.

I would recommend this book to any woman or man. I read this book and yet I still keep picking it up to read again. This book blessed me. I find myself referring to this book when I'm encouraging other. I have been able to apply it to my faith walk. I don't know how to say how much I loved this book. Oddly I don't remember buying the book, I have no idea how I got it but it was right there along with other books when I needed. I could not put it down, I have highlighted and folder corners.

A friend in our Sunday School class recommended this book for our next weekly Bible Study. It is excellent and lent itself well to group discussion and personal growth. I know that it has raised my own awareness about walking in faith. Our little group of ladies is committed to seeking ways to serve God in our community, and this little guide lays out the phases of the journey toward a walk with God that can lead to service for Him. We all want Lysa to come talk to us!
