This book (Chinese translation) was given to me on the day of my baptism by an old lady in my church. At that time I was a 13 years old boy in a Presbyterian church in Taiwan. The Chinese title of the book was "The Power of Prayer" so I never thought of it as a book written for women. I remember I wept many times reading through that book. At this particular end-of-the-chapter prayer in which I surrender every part of my life to God...I was only a 13 years old boy in 6th grade, yet I pictured all the things I would do and love in the next decades and that I had given them up to God for His purpose.
My life had never been the same.
Today I am a 24 years old and a Master of Divinity student at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. As I am sitting in front of my computer weeping for all the hardships I have been through in my life, the prayer that I made 11 years ago came to me. I opened that 11 years old book and read that chapter again. I realized that my life has indeed been in His hands over all these years and through all the hardships.
In all, God is transforming me into a humble servant for Him, and in this difficult sanctifying process I am learning obedience and trusting in Him alone. This journey all started that night...reading this book.

This book has been a great help to me and to other women at Bryn Mawr College in understanding what prayer is, and how to pray more effectively. Christians on our campus are realizing more and more how central prayer is to loving and serving God. I talked with another friend who had read it, and we were surprised to discover that we had found it so helpful that we had outlined each one of Evelyn Christenson's points. If I can come up with the cash, I want to buy a copy of this book for every Christian woman on campus. (It's that good!) If you have any questions about prayer, or even if you are unsure if prayer is really that important, definitely get this book.

This was an excellent book and I am sure it would make great for study groups and organization. But as a woman who prays on her own this works very well too. I really love this book and I myself have seen the wonderful results.

i knew a lot of this stuff already, but it was still a good read (in 1 sitting!) i especially liked the anecdotes (i get snoozy when a book doesn't have enough anecdotes!) & the way she broke intercessory prayer down into easy-to-remember steps (which makes it pretty much foolproof -- ANYONE could lead a small prayer group using her method -- it's so easy!) i also really appreciated her sensitivity in dealing with shy pray-ers (rule #1: NEVER force them to pray out loud!), since i have always been a shy pray-er myself (& shy everything else -- public speaking has never been my forte -- but prayer is my passion, so i endure ... )

I have read this book twice. After introducing it to a group of young women in my church, it became their weapon for spiritual growth. It was truly amazing to watch the transformation each of them made. I recommend this book to any women's group or for anyone else seeking spiritual direction and growth. I have also done workshops based on the leader's guide. Each time, wonderful results were produced.

OUR LADIES WERE IN NEED TO GET BACK CLOSE TO GOD. WE LEARN OF THIS BOOK AT A LADIES MEETING. WE BEGAN TO BY AND READ AND STUDY. BEFORE WE RELIZED WE WERE NOTICING WE ALL NEEDED TO GET BACK TO OURFIRST LOVE CHRIST THUR PRAYER. I HAVE FOUND MY PRAYER CHAIR AND WHAT A BLESSING. THANK YOU JESUS FOR EVELYN CHRISTENSON.

This is such a great book! I'm now reading it for the third time and I gain new insights each time. I've purchased copies for friends and family as well.

The book is excellent. I am looking for the Leaders Guide. I am organizing a conference for the women of my church with this book and I need the Leaders Guide. Has anyone found it?

This book was excellent. Our womens bible group did this study and it was just incredible. It really teaches us so much about prayer and our realtionship with the Lord. I'd recommend this to anyones bible study group, or to read on their own.

If you DO want a change - READ IT NOW!!! I meet with a colleague weekly, & we've been working our way through this book. I can't BEGIN to explain all that has taken place in my (or my friend's) life since we began studying this dynamic book! Evelyn Christenson has challenged, convicted, encouraged, motivated & - quite literally... CHANGED us!
