4.0 out of 5 stars One of Chris Rice's Better Albums
The opening track, "So Much For My Sad Song", is typical Chris Rice happy-go-lucky music, starting off the album in a familiar way. The next one, the title track, is one of the strongest songs on the album despite the minute of filler at the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of Chris Rice's Better Albums, July 25, 2007
This review is from: What a Heart Is Beating for (Audio CD)
The opening track, "So Much For My Sad Song", is typical Chris Rice happy-go-lucky music, starting off the album in a familiar way. The next one, the title track, is one of the strongest songs on the album despite the minute of filler at the end.

"Love Is Gonna Break Through" is another thoughtful piano ballad from Mr. Rice. My personal favorite from the album is "You Don't Have To Yell," a great lyrical song about not having to be the loudest in order to be meaningful and heard. The next two songs are decent, though "Lemonade" already appeared on his previous album.

"Let The Words Escape" is a standout ballad and definitely a memorable song. Another notable song is the classic Chris Rice hymn-like "Tell Me The Story Again." The one knock on this album (and Christian music artists in general) is the lack of musical evolution and originality. Rice's sound has not changed at all from his early works, which will at least please those who want something familiar. This album, however, is still above average and one of Chris' better albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, July 23, 2007
This review is from: What a Heart Is Beating for (Audio CD)
I love this cd, well, actually I just ordered it through his site and got the code to listen to it online (until I actually get it in person).

Like he say's, it's not quite the "traditional rice" but is great anyways. My favorite song is the first song, "so much for a sad song".

If you enjoyed Amusing, you will most likely enjoy this album.

*****NOTE TO CHRIS RICE***** >>>> Keep the albums coming, Love them...

Peace,
Travis

If you love excellent harmonies and melodies, a clean fresh voice, and soft rock/adult contemporary music, as I do, you will absolutely love this CD. As one of the songs on this CD suggests, "You Don't Have To Yell," and believe me he doesn't. Simply the best CD that I have heard in about 20 years. I still love to hear the bouncy harmony and clean melody and voice in "Lemonade."
If you like this CD, and would like a female version with a similar style, check out the artist named "Jem", the CD titled "Finally Woken," and the song, "Wish I" (#7 on the CD.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another can't miss by Chris!, July 20, 2007
This review is from: What a Heart Is Beating for (Audio CD)
Wow! Chris always has something new to share with his fellow travelers. Just when you start thinking there aren't any new ways to express certain thoughts Chris comes out with fresh ideas and original angles on the universal themes of hope, faith and love.

Great words and music that are out of the box original. Great CD!

I'd actually rather listen to Amusing, as some of the songs there are more reflective of the Chris Rice I know and love. And I highly recommend any of his projects prior to Amusing. There are two songs missing from Amazon's track list for this cd...#12 Kids Again and #13 Baby Take Your Bow. I guess my favorite tracks are Pardon My Dust (Love it, love it, love it) and What a Heart is Beating For.

This a real peaceful recording. It has a warm calming affect. Reminds me of some of James Taylors early albums. It's joyful. It's a warm comforting experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great voice, great words, great music, August 22, 2010

I stumbled upon Chris Rice's music completely by accident. After spending a hefty sum of money getting a Sony hard disk drive audio system as an anniversary present, I found Chris Rice's "Lemonade" as part of the sample song package. After setting up the system for my spouse, I listened to the song twice and realized I had to get his "Lemonade" song on my Ipod.

I have not heard of his earlier albums before, which according to most reviews on Amazon contained mostly religious songs. Here is what I think of this album.

As a vocalist, Chris Rice has one of the most sincere, honest voice I've ever heard. He doesn't try to impress his audience, but by doing so, his voice comes off with so much confidence it is impossible for anyone to ignore. He goes soft and gets loud from time to time, but never ever overwhelms his audience. And as far as pitching goes, Chris manages to hit every note so perfectly he sounds almost like the musical instrument.

Next comes the words and the music. It is very difficult to describe the messages Rice intend to convey with his songs with just a few words. Some of his songs are very uplifting, some are reflective, while some are way too mature for a young audience. There are alot of good song writers out there writing all kinds of great music and lyrics, but I think most of the time, no matter how good some of those songs are, the messages got buried by loud arrangements or just bad production before they made it to the airwaves.

I think it is important for a musician that when you sing, your voice draws your audience into your song, and by that, your audience is drawn to the words in your songs, and by that, the messages you intent to convey to your audience is received and understood completely.

Chris Rice has managed to achieve all of them without even trying. If he is trying really hard, he sure knows how to hide it well from his audience. What an impressive musician this is.
