This review is from: What Horses Say: How to Hear, Help and Heal Them (Hardcover)
I try to read all the books on animal communication, and equines are my first interest.
This was a very easily readable book, and I nearly finished it in a weekend. Julie Dicker is an intuitive and a healer. Having communicated with thousands of horses, her vast experience was used to highlight a number of specific "cases" she was involved with. It is quite obviously an English book, as opposed to American, but all the terms were pretty easy to figure out in context. Having been around horses most of my life, nothing said in the book was particularly surprising, but I did like the little surveys done at the end of each chapter. Asking horses what they like and what is important to them brought some surprise answers for anyone sure they would say grass, hay, or grain. To be busy and useful was the number one most important thing for horses, and receiving praise and attention even beat out food. A clear majority of the horses preferred to remain outdoors as opposed to stabled, but in every poll, there were exceptions. There are other books that go more into teaching one how to communicate intuitively with animals, but this book is noteworthy for the shear volume of material about the experiences, perceptions, and preferences of horses. Whether one believes in intuitive animal communication or not, there is a wealth of material here for anyone interested in better understanding our equine companions. While many breeds of horses and ponies were represented, there was no material from donkeys or mules. While there are many similarities with horses, donkeys and mules have some definite differences. Though these differences have been explored by sensitive trainers such as Meredith Hodges, I would love to hear what a good intuitive such as Julie Dicker could learn from donkeys and mules. Julie and the author's love for the animals comes through in every aspect of this enjoyable book.

It is exactly what I was looking for.....,

I have much curiosity regarding the ability to communicate specifically with horses. Is this for real or just another new age philosophy that has somehow managed to sneak into the horse community? I have tried reading two previous books which were quite disappointing, as these 2 books had more to do with new age mysticism and less to do with my specific interest: HORSES. Although I have not finished reading this above-referenced book, I am enjoying it tremendously and even if after finishing this book, it turns out that communicating with horses is not possible; at least I will have been powerfully impressed and hopefully, become more sensitive to the needs of horses. If only one horse profits, as a result of a single reader of this book, then the authors' efforts will have been truly worth it. Congratulations on writing a wonderful, wonderful book.

I LOVE this book. Julie Dicker seems like a very humble and caring person. Her ability to communicate and help horses heal just seems so extraordinary. If you own or love horses, this is a must have to better understand the equine. I love the compassion in this book. It will make your heart melt and rejoice to read these stories.

I truly enjoyed this book, and I must say, since reading it I have felt a lot more in touch with my horse. I have gained a whole new perspective on equine communication, and adressing behavioral or phsycological problems. I must admit, before reading this, I was a little dubious of animal "phsychics" . However, since reading about Julie Dicker's methods of equine communication, my opinion has swayed, leaving me convinced that yes, if you really listen, your horse will speak to you.

This was a very easily readable book. It was a book I could pick up anytime and not have to go back and reread the last several pages to remember where I had left off.
Julie Dicker is an intuitive and a healer. Apparently she has not only communicated with thousands of horses but done hands-on healing work also. Although the authors were obviously from the UK, most of the wording was easily followed. If I had a complaint it would be that they did not go into more details about how Ms. Dicker actually does her healing work. As an animal communicator as well as healer I found this book to be an exceptionally authentic representation of horses' feelings and intelligent minds. It truly puts meaning to "The best thing that can happen to the inside of a human is the outside of a horse."

Great book... I couldn't put it down. It does give you insight on the horses' thoughts but you can "read into it" as much as you want or as little as you want. I found myself being more aware of things going on in the barn. Good book for enjoyment if nothing else.

Not what I Thought,
This review is from: What Horses Say: How to Hear, Help and Heal Them (Hardcover)
This book is actually about a "psychic" who "talked" to the horses and then writes down the horses' "responses". I really didn't get that idea from the written description of the book before I ordered it. I was really disappointed in the concept as it seemed rather silly in some of the "responses" this psychic recorded! Waste of money.

This is not a step-by-step guide as to how to hear and convey information with horses - rather it is more a compendium of wonderful successes of having done so. It will help fill out the scope of your appreciation of what's possible in animal communication; especially with horses. There are interesting statistics associated with each major subject tackled (saddles. freedoms, companionship and more) based on the experiences of one talented and highly regarded equine specialist. She has kept track of the information she has received from all of her clients and compiles a lot of that information here. Her methods reiterate those expounded on in other books on this same subject, but again, this is not deeply explored in this little volume. I may not advise you to start with this book in your search for how-tos, but I would recommend it as a collection of successes that will add depth to your overall knowledge on the subject of animal communication.

Julie Dicker has passed on and what a loss for the horses as she helped so many but she gave at least some of them a voice through her book. What Horses Say should be required reading for anyone considering buying a horse and those who own horses. We all talk to our horses, but most of us don't listen to them. Most of us probably don't have the psychic ability of Julie but please buy this book, read it and use it to at least try to understand what your horse is trying to tell you. I guarantee you will come away from reading this book with ways you can make your horse happier and healthier.
