5.0 out of 5 stars The What if Guy, a fun read yet a powerfull message, February 1, 2007
This review is from: The What-If Guy: A girls' guide to finding her soulmate (Paperback)
I read "The What-If Guy" in one night. I know it came to me when I needed it. I recognized myself in Wilshire's character. It made me laugh and cry. Somehow Wilshire manages to combine "Sex in the City" and "A Course in Miracles." The book has a lot of suble spiritual messages along with a great story line. The book is good for everyone but especially appropriate for those who have never been introduced to spiritual literature or "A Course in Miracles." I highly recommend "The What-IF Guy."

A good read about the romance, but I don't understand where spirituality comes in at all. Some steaminess. Slows down in second half when she is without a boyfriend. Good message: Don't worry about WHAT IF, but WHAT IS.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chick lit with a twist of spirituality, November 16, 2006

This review is from: The What-If Guy: A girls' guide to finding her soulmate (Paperback)
Ryley McKenna is young, pretty and becoming successful as a corporate salesperson. Now that her career is set, she is ready for love! However, Ryley is quickly learning that you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you meet Prince Charming.

She dates Hank who seems wonderful but keeps a lot of secrets from her. She also dates Richard. Ryley is about the only person who finds Richard charming. After repeatedly getting her heart broken and her confidence crushed, Ryley decides to get a new attitude and focus on her career. Before long, she is struggling to maintain a balance between her professional life and her personal life. She is having trouble getting over a past boyfriend, convinced that he was her soul mate--her "What-If Guy."

Her best friend, Sarah, gives her a book called A Course in Miracles. Ryley is doubtful that this book will help but she reads a few pages when she can. Ryley begins to change her perspective and her situation. In finding inner peace and balance, she becomes happier and more open to the opportunities that come her way.

Wilshire's debut novel is funny and realistic. I really enjoyed her sense of humor. I was giggling as I read about Ryley and Sarah getting ready for a party. She was able to capture the excitement, anticipation and zaniness of dating. I could also relate to Ryley--it's hard to juggle work, friends and love. Ryley was able to find inspiration and achieve a balance.

Like most of us, Ryley has a hard time letting go of the past. She learns that if she clings too hard to the past, she would miss all the possibilities that are happening now.

Armchair Interviews says Chick Lit with a twist of spirituality. Ryley learns it's possible to have it all: relationships, a career and inner peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars A journey worth taking, October 25, 2006
This review is from: The What-If Guy: A girls' guide to finding her soulmate (Paperback)
This was a journey worth taking. Witness the transformation of a woman's work, friendships, loves, and self discovery by embracing her spiritual life. The writing was so seemless and so well done that i was captured and entranced with the story. I had no prior knowledge of "a course in miracles" before reading this book. But after reading it, my curiosity has been piqued. this is a great read, one you'll want to lend to your girlfriends and know you are doing them a favor. I've already lent my copy out.
