Book Description

April 9, 1997
This brilliant book asks What's right with our world? And how did it get that way? The answers may surprise you, intrigue you and inspire you. Hopefully they will change you as they have changed the world. In a day when may professing Christians appear blissfully unaware of their cultural mandate, the authors remind us that the Church is to bear the glory of God in every sphere of life.

The authors have compiled quite a compendium of information regarding the impact of the life of Jesus Christ on the world and its checkered history. Although we may have heard or read of some of the information contained in its pages, this book takes the time to research many of the sources of that information and relates it in a very clear way. It also points out that, even though Christ was perfect, His followers are often flawed. Without overlooking the foibles of these followers and the "church" in general, Kennedy makes us step back and examine a world without the Incarnation. The book points out that even detractors of Christianity use many of its tenets to either live by or apply extra-biblicly. It is a great resource for Christians to have in their library. Probably more than that, it is a book that is geared to the skeptic or person who believes that the effects of religion, Christianity in particular, have been detrimental to human development. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to know how God intervenes in the affairs of human beings and His effect upon our present world.

4.0 out of 5 stars The evidence is all around us August 1, 2000
Format:Paperback
I must say this book was not exactly what I expected. I guess I was looking for a detailed analysis on what life might have been like if Jesus had never happened, but instead I was treated to a litany of what Christianity has accomplished.

I don't for a minute dispute the claims Mr. Kennedy makes primarily because the evidence is all around us. There is no doubt that many of the laws, institutions, traditions and notions spawned by man's love for Christ has raised the human condition beyond anything that could have been imagined before Him. It is also a fact that wherever Christianity has gone freedom, wealth and love of neighbor soon follow. If you think about the worst poverty, disgusting living conditions and religious and human persecution that exists on Earth today it is in countries where they've have no positive exposure to Jesus Christ. Many countries like Sudan, India, China and many Arab states openly persecute Christians. These are not nations fleeing immigrants are dying to get into like they are the Christian nations of Europe and North America.

Kennedy does tend to preach to the choir throughout the book and I doubt a skeptic or non-believer would be swayed by his arguments. Still, most of the facts presented can not be so easily disputed. Skeptics have a way of focusing on one or two negative aspects and declaring the whole Jesus movement as bankrupt. Would these people say the same about the American experiment? If so, then thanks to a certain President, the America we love has been completely discredited.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impact of Christ well presented December 17, 1999
Format:Paperback
This book does a fine job of describing the positive impact of Jesus Christ upon Western Civilization, offering very specific examples relating to modern issues - role of women, slavery, economic reform, just to mention a few. It is exceptionally readable and useful for any layperson. Some limitations include a very limited schope, for example, most examples rest in the era of Roman empire and the misuses of Christian power as it became a dominant religion were glossed over.

3.0 out of 5 stars A needed book but could have been better January 6, 2011
Format:Paperback
This book deals with an issue that our culture needs to consider. Our world is a better place because of Christ working through His people. However, Kennedy was too general in his discussion. I believe his book would be more powerful if he had given more details. As one who is interested in history, I find this book lacking in historical context.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative video. February 8, 2013
Format:Unknown Binding|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought a pile of D James Kennedy's books from Amazon for my daughter. Most were used and all were in very good shape. I bought this video instead of the book so I could watch it, too. I don't have time to read so many books but she loves to read religious books. I used to listen to him on the radio (miss him) and have read some of his books. I thought she would enjoy them. The video was well worth the order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really want to know? January 3, 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
A good grounded look at what our world might be like had Jesus never been born. The author presents sound evidence that our world would be much worse than it is now. Jesus's birth even has had a profound effect on the arts. The author also addresses the question of religiously fueled demicide with statistics that refute the common canard of religions inspiring more wars than anything else--unless you include state-as-god communism as a religion, which a former Soviet citizen friend of mine did without hesitation. An excellent thought-provoking read for those interested in knowing more about this amazing man--let's not keep taking the benefits of Jesus's birth for granted.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book- a must read April 4, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a must read for Christians who are weary of hearing how much better the world would be if we weren't here. A lot of non- Christians could benefit from reading this book- it is an eye opener. The extensive influence of Christianity in the world, and its impact on the U.S. goverment and the world made me weep, when I realized how much Jesus has affected this world, and how much would be lost if He had never been born. The non-Christian population has no idea how much they would lose. I absolutely loved this book, and refer to it again and again.

This was nothing more than a political-religious diatribe, pushing the author's own interpretation (often out of the main stream) of certain Christian principles. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The most compelling and awesome reason to believe. Amen.
The book is the best at defining the impact Jesus had on the world. Without Jesus the world was doomed to be a constant remake of Sodom and Gomorrah or total self destruction. Read more
