Renowned food photographer Katie Quinn Davies’ cookbook shares her favorite simple dishes with a dazzling collection of recipes and beautiful images (American edition).

After spending more than a decade as an art director working for some of the top design studios in Ireland, the United States, and Australia, Katie Quinn Davies refocused her creativity towards food and lifestyle photography and created a blog called What Katie Ate. An Internet phenomenon, What Katie Ate has received international attention and was even dubbed one of the best food blogs in the world by GOOP. Showcasing her extraordinary eye, this debut cookbook is a unique combination of food diary and how-to, with tips and tricks, photographs, recipes, and stories.

Featured dishes range from Wild Mushrooms on Toast with Parmesan and Herbs to Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Apple, Prune & Pine Nut Stuffing and Cider Cream Gravy. What’s for dessert? Temptations include Coffee Hazelnut Frangelico Cake and Honey Baked Peaches with Vanilla Bean Créme Fraiche.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Recipes November 16, 2012
Format:Hardcover
I did not know of Katie Quinn Davies's blog before buying this book, I bought it purely off the reviews and the cover shot.
Since buying the book I visit her blog regularly and am amazed at the talent Katie has in that she writes the recipes, cooks, styles and photographs the food, simply awesome!
I also see that she is a regular contributor to Australian food magazines which is a huge recommendation in itself!
As to the food, well I love home cooking and entertaining and "What Katie Ate" ticks all the boxes for me, the recipes are fantastic, everything
I have cooked so far has been a huge hit with friends and family, my 3 favourites so far are the "Creamy Macaroni Bake" page 155,
"Pearl Barley Salad with Harissa Spiced Chicken" page 85 and "Katie's Fish Pie" page 188. As to the photography and style of the book, I
think the realness of the pictures is superb they make you want to cook the food straight away and I really like the old feel of he book, like I have had it for years and years.
I really hope that this is the first of many cookbooks to come from Katie Quinn Davies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! November 11, 2012
Format:Hardcover
You MUST buy this cook book! It got me so inspired that I made seven recipes in seven days and they have all been delicious! This is not your run-of-the-mill pretentious cook book, it's recipes that have been lovingly put together and are easy enough to cook. Katie says that each recipe has been tried and tested and it must be true because everything I've made so far has turned out just like the picture (who hasn't been disappointed by a dish that fails and wasted ingredients because the recipe was wrong!). The best thing about this book is that it's home cooking at it's best and the photography is so beautiful. The only difficult part is choosing which recipe to cook! I'm working my way cooking through this book. Trust me, you'll love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ecstatic November 20, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I can't begin to convey the total esthetic and culinary delight that this book is. I've been following Katie's blog, and have been swooning at her incredibly original and endlessly inventive creations. There is no other food stylist OR photographer as good as her -- and I work in the industry. Usually it would take 2 geniuses to create work of this caliber -- an incredible stylist and a great photographer. The fact that Katie can play both roles, when in fact she's a graphic designer by training, is a testament to her enormous genius and talent. My favorite photograph is of the Carrot cakes with cointreau-soaked sultanas -- cupcakes on a cake stand with a long precious drool of syrup juuuust about to drop off the edge of the cake stand. Photo perfection.

The design is also immaculate; attention has been paid to the tiniest detail -- recipes are numbered and categorized; the typefaces are beautifully organic and reminiscent of recipe cards that one has had and used for years -- scans of old checkered paper back several of the recipe pages, giving a warm, homey feel to the book as if we're being let in on a long-kept family secret.

The recipes are also thoroughly enthralling... They range from fairly easy (Blood Orange, Mango and Peach Granita) to more involved but very rewarding (Roast Pork with Apple, Apricot and Pistachio Stuffing). Needless to say, the photographs make me want to lick the pages AND give me the desire to try all the recipes, though -- pray God -- not all at once.

As an art director I often buy cookbooks with no intention of cooking, just for the esthetic delight. This is definitely THE book of any I own or have seen, that offers the MOST culinary / kitchen-y rapture to the eye. It doesn't get any better than this for food photography. Get it while you can. Even if you're feeling lazy, you'll be seduced to try these recipes before you can stop yourself.
