I loved the Anne of Green Gables series so much that I just had to have this movie. I find it a soft movie, kind and uplifting, sad and loving, funny at times and a great family movie. It just goes to show that you don't have to give up on life if there is a will in your heart and you have someone to share it with. I thought it was great.

I had not seen the movie before, but I expected it to be similar to Anne of Green Gables, and it was. For me, this was a good thing, because I also enjoyed Anne of Green Gables - so the movie met my expectations.

I'm very happy that we have found Canadian television and movies. This movie is just another good example of a wonderful family movie we can all enjoy together without worrying what will happen on the screen that may be offensive to our children. In addition, the life lessons are good.

This movie version has completely butchered the book, doing away with the character of Clover completely for example. But even if you ignore the book and are looking for a good movie, this one is weak at best. The plot just meanders along without any memorable moments at all. None of the characters are compelling (unlike in the book), and unlike the Avonlea series or Anne of Green Gables, the ordinariness of everyday life is just plain boring in this film. Much of the blame lies in the film's refusal to explain who all the characters are and what their relationship to one another is. This can't be justified by saying that you'd know all this if you'd read the book in advance. As I said, they changed everything and even got rid of Clover!!! Some scenes feel like pure filler. There are also several cues that are not followed through. So Katy helps a homeless man, and he comes back twice to meet her. You expect that this will mean something later in the plot, but it doesn't. There are other details like this that are just weakly lifted fragments from the book.
