I liked this Cd by margaret Becker it had some good lyrics and a couple of songs i really liked. I like the songs "Friend For Life" and "Hope in a Hopeless World." This is not a bad CD for fans of Margaret Becker or fans of contempory pop albums.

I always look forward to Margaret's latest approach to lyrical and musical composition with each album. She does this once again in What Kind of Love. The lyrics are certainly less intense than Falling Forward, and the style is less alternative; but, the messages are just as powerful. The album represents a more simplified Margaret. My speculation is that her varying style truly represents what she is learning on the journey. What Kind of Love is a must-have. If you are a first-time fan, I would also take a listen to Falling Forward and another one of her earlier CDs to get the full spectrum of her style and make your own judgments. You will come away renewed.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Margaret's best creations!, November 22, 1999
This review is from: What Kind of Love (Audio CD)
I have eagerly waited for every new MaggieB c.d. since her "Soul" release in 1993. "Soul" continues to be my favorite album by Margaret, and I would have been content to purchase succeeding albums that were stylistically similiar. Margaret, though, is a consummate artist. She creates from within herself, and her musical style changes with her lyrical content. "What Kind of Love" is not like her previous albums, although it is obviously a product of her artistic growth and years of experience in this industry. Listeners will not find soulful, heartfelt "ballads" on this album, such as "Say the Name" or "All That I Am" from 1993. While I hope she will find places on her future albums for ballads, because that is where she really stretches her vocal muscles, I have no complaint about "What Kind of Love." It's message of hope is carried throughout by mostly moderate--some upbeat--smooth pop songs, excellently produced by one of CCM's most contemporary producers, Tedd T (Rebecca St. James), and Margaret's voice is just as passionate as ever. This album should also appeal to listeners of mostly mainstream music. With "What Kind of Love," Margaret has guaranteed herself a music career for as long as she wants to continue it into the 21st century!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Only Kind of Love to Have, February 1, 2000
This review is from: What Kind of Love (Audio CD)
When I think that Margaret Becker could not possibly express her love for Jesus Christ more passionately and lovingly than she already has in her previous albums, she does just that. I am continually amazed at how Ms. Becker puts her finger right on the pulse of a passionate relationship with Jesus Christ. She holds nothing back, and in so doing, reminds every listener that Jesus Christ longs to share such a deep and richly intimate romance with all believers.

When Margaret asks "What Kind of Love?" on this album, I dare to venture that it is precisely the kind of love she has and displays for Jesus that brings Him the greatest satisfaction. I not only admire this woman's music but her profoundly moving relationship with Jesus Christ as is evident in her lyrical compositions and how she conducts herself on and off the stage.

To Margaret: I am "out here with you" and I "know what you are talking about." I raise my hands, and I commit to giving "hope in a hopeless world." Thanks for spreading hope to all believers and non-believers with your music and witness. You are a true inspiration. Thanks for growing everyday and sharing that growth along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars MARGARET - THE AWESOMEST SOUL SINGER, January 6, 2000
By
This review is from: What Kind of Love (Audio CD)
Margaret Becker is certainly at her finest on "What Kind of Love". She gives an electrifying performance on the title song written by Chris Eaton and herself. Margaret's latest effort is her most mature, reflecting much of the same style as "Falling Forward" but with a tremendous amount of fervor (and SOUL). My personal favorite is "I Won't Be Persuaded" which I cannot get by without playing it twice in successon! Production is smooth by Ted T. and Lynn Nichols. Maragaret is beyond a shadow of a doubt, the AWESOMEST SOUL SINGER. She is also an excellent example of a born-again performer! (wtobin@rocketmail.com)

4.0 out of 5 stars Raw, bitter and sweet, April 28, 2000

This review is from: What Kind of Love (Audio CD)
This is my first Margaret Becker CD. I bought it because of the good recommendations and reviews of her fan base. To be honest, I was disappointed when I heard it. Her brand of R&B/Soul/Jazz does not go down well with the first few sittings. However, her lyrics and message are direct and poignant, and that is where the listener must start; begin with the words and its honesty, and you will grow into the music.

Her music is about the incredible thought and hope in God reaching out to us, and the challenge for us to reach back and not let go of Him - the sense of wonder ("What Kind Of Love", "Feel It All", "One More Reason"), encouragement and exhortation to reach out for Him ("Friend For Life", "Love By Your Side"), and the hope of God working in and through us ("All That's Left", "Hope In A Hopeless World", "Poor In Paradise").

Overall, the best way I can describe this offering is that it is bittersweet, with a certain raw quality, both in the music and her vocals. This may not be a CD for everyone. The best advice I can offer - listen with an open mind and heart; it may not strike you on initial plays, but persevere and you will get to the "core" of what is a very good offering, one that will leave you with a greater yearning for more with every listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album by a great singer/songwriter, September 23, 2002

This is the first CD I have bought by this awesome artist. The fact that she co-wrote all the lyrics on this album makes it so much more special.. I was so impressed with this album that I ordered another one for my daughter in South Africa. Margeret Becker is a truly gifted Christian singer and the words of her songs are extaordinary and deeply spiritual.

Her song "Friend for Life" is so poignantly true as we all wish to be the one that leads our best friend to the Lord... but rejoice when someone else does it anyway.

"I won't be Persuaded" was a great blessing to me at a time that I really needed it. I lost my second youngest daughter five month's ago and it is always so hard to see God's purpose in taking a young mother who left behind three young sons and a grieving husband. However, I do believe that I can trust in God as His word says that 'all things work together for the good of those that love God and are called according to His purpose'. The one thing I know, without a doubt, is that my daughter is with the Lord and I will see her again.

Margaret's final song on this album "Poor in Paradise" is a wonderful reminder that God is faithful and full of love and gives great joy to all who belong to Him and follow His Son as Lord and Saviour.

With offers on a used CD as low as are available on Amazon.com should make this purchase a real must!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A CD that brings healing, July 6, 2001
This review is from: What Kind of Love (Audio CD)
When I write a review, I like to try to "summarize" the main message. For this CD, that message would have to be "emotional healing". It seems that it was written to bring healing to those who have been wounded, to those who may question God's love for them, to those who have recognized their unworthiness and are blown away by the fact that God still loves them. It seems that anyone who is stuggling with emotional pain or someone who feels like they want to give up,would find encouragement in the words to this CD. In addition, the music is contemporary, (not alternative) with melodies that stick in your head.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good CD, November 19, 1999

This review is from: What Kind of Love (Audio CD)
I have listened to Margaret Becker since her Never for Nothing album was released in the 80's, with my favorites being Soul and Falling Forward. This new one is good - musically strong, but lyrically, it is not as innovative and capturing as Falling Forward. But, it is good overall and worth your money.

Margaret Becker is definitely my favorite Christian singer/songwriter. And this CD is no exception to my opinion. This CD is filled with deep passion for God. The music is very upbeat and enjoyable to listen to--But it's not shallow. Any person who wants to draw closer to God and is looking for a musical / to assist you will not be disappointed with this CD.
