Slave Raider's What Do You Know About Rock -n- Roll,
By A Customer
This review is from: What Do You Know About Rock n Roll? (Audio CD)
I have a special place for this album. I've listened to it since I was a teenager. When I was a kid I had the tapes of this group. I kinda liked the idea of putting several songs together to make a story. From "The High Priest Of Good Times" to "Jailbreak",it was cool how they made it come together. It is too bad that this band isn't together anymore. It would be cool to hear some new stuff from these guys. Chainsaw, if you happen to read this... Do the world a favor, get your band together and MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!

Slave Raider - 'What Do You Know About Rock 'N Roll?' (Jive),

Put out in 1989, Slave Raider's second album. Some have suggested that this three-lp shock rock / glam metal band from Minneapolis is like a Twisted Sister wanna-be. Tracks that make this CD a keeper - without a doubt are the awesome "Is There Rock 'N Roll In Heaven?", "Sin City Social", "Roller Coaster", the rocking "The High Priest Of Good Times" and their cover of Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak". Recommended, as I would for all three of their CD's.

I bought "taking the world by storm" after seeing the MTV, yes Virginia, they actually showed VIDEOS once, on the HEADBANGER's BALL anyways, but never got air-time. I then got the next cassette, "What do you know about rock and roll" it is basically a current, for the time, version of the : Who's "TOMMY", a rock opera without all the BS the WHO attached to their's. This band is one of the most amazing groups I have ever had the pleasure to see. I seen G&R before most had a clue who they were, I watched Shotgun Messiah show me something new, BTW it is standard "industrial rock" today. I currently am watching "Babylon AD, Hammer Swings Down" on "metal mania" and "Golden Earring's RADAR LOVE", "Mettalica's Enter Sandman" ironically on VH1 Classic, that's funny as MTV is playing "Jeepers Creepers", an old SciFi movie. I grew up with Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priestand the Beatles, much to my mother's chagrin. Slave Raider was unique, and is still, based on the price of the CD's, $199 new or $149 used, arggggg. Chainsaw, do us all a favor and find the original members and do a re-issue. My wallet can't handle the costs anymore with the paycuts. these guys are just what the title says "Unique and Awesome". Just an "old fart's" opinion @ 50 I have heard a band or 2.

This was a good one.,

Wow, I have to admit I just typed this is on a whim, not expecting to see this listed, bonus!
This was one of those low budget indie records that spawned 2 follow ups, but this is the better disk. God forgive me but this is best described as Pirate Rock, and I mean that in the visual styling sense. A bunch of silk and Denim, Bandannas and a whole lot of Pirate fashion sense earned "Slave Raider" a few glances in the Minneapolis rock scene. This is a really good debut album for those into to glam scene. Not as girly as "Poison" nor as heavy as early "Motley Crue", I would describe the as "What if ("Quiet Riot" lead singer) Kevin DuBrow fronted "Poison". "Backstabbin'", "Make Some Noise" "Young Blood" and the title track are all standout tracks. But the real gem here is "Long Way from Home", this is an 80's anthem gem! Seriously, I would give a disk of animals farting 5 stars if this track was tacked on the end of it. [...]

Ripping Good Rock,

You had to see the live show to know how cool they really were, but this album stands out all by itself. Its missing the slick production that a lot of crappy bands from LA were getting around the same time, but the songs are so good it'll still tear your head off. I'll take this over Ratt or White Lion anyday. RIP Slave Raider.
