Extraordinary 1st Solo CD,
By
This review is from: Of What Lies Beneath (Audio CD)
I knew this CD would be really good, but I wasn't prepared for it to be this great. Dyer has a uniquely recognizable voice missing from today's pop artists. This CD contains a variety of sounds, rhythms, and melodies sure to entrall any music lover. 'Stereophonic' is a fun, catchy tune that makes you want to dance. I'm still singing the chorus in my head. 'Space Alien' is a beautifully haunting songs that carries you off. 'What Lies Beneath', one of the best songs on the CD, features Dyer's talented vocals, as well as, songwriting skills. It's a soul & rhythm combo mixed in with great vocals and unforgettable songs. It's been a long time that I bought a CD and actually liked every song.

Check out his old band Breedlove.,

Personally, I think Lenny had too much control of this in the studio because it sounds more like him, and less like Dan, musically anyways. Check out Dan's old band from Austin called Breedlove if you want more Dan and less Lenny. There is much more originality in their music, though they only released one album( "Reach Out").

One night, in Austin Texas, I happened upon the Saxon pub, where the music pulsated loudly onto the parking lot. This was a rocking night, and surely another great band was pumping away inside. I quickly paid my way in.
A guitar playing friend spotted me and began to comment enthusiastically in my ear but I ignored him: the Dan Dyer Band had entered my life. I cannot find words to describe the impact that first performance had on me. After the show, Dan and I exchanged cd's, and rarely are cd's that you pick up after a great show able to capture the atmosphere where you just came from. This cd did. I blasted it full volume all the way home. I went to see Dan on many subsequent occasions, and even on off nights he and the band were simply great. My original cd got damaged, and I did not hesitate to quickly buy a replacement. Alas, the Dan Dyer Band has stopped. Hopefully Dan will kick up a new incarnation? Get this cd. Get this cd. Need to hear it again? Get this cd!

Not Breedlove but still GREAT,
This review is from: Of What Lies Beneath (Audio CD)
I loved Breedlove so much and longed for Day Dyer's voice on new songs. A few songs do satisfy the craving. I also love Lenny Kravitz so it was the best of both worlds. Some songs are very Lenny and a couple are Breedlove-esqe. I'm listening to it again right now. I grows on me more and more.

I saw Dan Dyer's second visit to the Blue Door in Oklahoma City. He used a lot of awesome guitar effects on these songs that are not on the album versions, but the music on this CD is great nonetheless. My favorites have to be 'Stereosonic' and 'Space Alien', but there are a lot of really good songs here. Give this a listen and you shouldn't be disappointed!

I love this cd and have since first hearing samples on his website which prompted me to see him live at a local venue. Loved him and have seen him live several times in the past few months and he just gets better every time I see him. This is not a Breedlove rehash but a new DAN DYER moving out on his own with a great breakout cd and I can hardly wait for the next release. This voice is a force to be reckoned with - you will be hearing it again. I just can't see this guy doing anything else but music - He's that good - an inherit talent!! Vikki D-Wichita Falls, TX

WOW, Dan Dyer is SO amazing. I have developed a feel for original artists and he is definitely someone worthy of listening to. His refreshing lyrics, along with his dynamic voice -- unbeatable combination. I promise that if you buy this album, you can't be disappointed. That is, unless you have absolutely NO taste and understanding of great music!

I heard "Great Ocean" and liked the song, but figured like most cd's, that would be one of the only good ones. But after listening to the entire album, I found all of the songs shared that same feel good bluesy rock. I'd reccomend this to anyone who likes Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews, and Gavin Degraw.

He Does Belong,

Great start for a new voice - this album is complete and without any 'off' moments.
I picked it up after reading a positive review. I had read another review that put Dyer in a James Taylor vein. After giving the CD several plays, Dyer fits more closely with artists like Kenny Loggins [as on AND IF I], Lindsey Buckingham, and Dan Fogelberg. His honesty and vocal range set him apart from the bland flatness of Taylor's music. RED ALERT starts the album off on a very strong note. My favorite track on the album would have to be the title track. Dyers effective use of his own voice for layered harmonies - and even with a few moments of special effects [SPACE ALIEN] - is a beautiful instrument in and of itself. |
