What is Life, is just one song off 3 vinyl albums worth of exceptional material from the 'quiet Beatle'. By far Georges best solo effort, and IMHO, All Things Must Pass is the best solo album of any of the Beatles. It has held up so well, the songs are as pertinent today as they were in 1970. If you can, get the whole album in the 2001 remix versions if you can afford it. Or one song at a time. The remix really shows just how talented George was with his musical phrasing, complex lyrics, and musicianship. What is Life, is a catchy upbeat tune on a serious subject. Something George could do so well. His pent up frustration at getting just 2 songs per Beatle album really explodes on All Things Must Pass. I've often wondered if they would have been as good as Beatle songs? I think George out on his own, with his super talented friends rounding out the band, free to do it his way, would have, and did, make the best version. No slam on the Beatles. George just needed his space to let himself be heard. You can't go wrong with this song, or any off the amazing All Things Must Pass album.
