What Little Boys Are Made Of is a wonderful celebration of what makes little boys.... little boys. An expanded take on the classic rhyme, this book has a great read aloud flow which makes it an excellent choice for preschool story time. The illustrations are bold and exuberant, filled with color and enough energy to make the dragons and pirates leap off the page. There's something in this rhyme for every little boy, whether he be a soccer player, a jungle explorer, or a fan of chocolate cake. It turns out that even little boys can be made of "Sugar and spice and everything nice", as well as "Frogs and snails and puppy-dogs tails".

With one line of text per page, it's a very short read. Perhaps my favorite thing little boys are made of is "Moons and stars and rockets to Mars, Blast and boom and uppity zoom!" Moms will appreciate the next to last page that reminds everyone that even little boys need "a kiss and a hug, a snuggle and Love", even as our little guy is dreaming about dinosaurs and prehistoric volcanoes. A great gift idea for the little boy in your life, and a fine addition to a story time or preschool classroom. I can't wait until this author gifts us with What Little Girls Are Made Of!

Here's an upbeat and boy-positive picture book for little boys and their moms everywhere. What are little boys made of? "Moons and stars and rockets to Mars."

Colorful full page imaginative spreads alternate with quieter scenes of a little boy playing at home. There's a hint of troublemaker energy, but on the whole the boy in this book is more like a much sweeter, gentler Calvin (of Calvin and Hobbes fame.) Pair this with Push Button by Aliki which offers another warm and loving picture of little boys.

Bought this for my toddler after enjoying "Wow! City!" from the library. Robert Neubecker is a great illustrator and there are so many things to notice in his drawings. My toddler and I spend tons of time just pouring over the details and finding little surprises.
The yellow dog for instance, as he did in "Wow! City!", can be found in every picture - sometimes in a very Where Waldo-esque style. So entertaining for me and my son.

I gave this book 5/5 stars. It was great to read a book with a positive look at little boys. I thought the illustrations were well done. I liked the text as it flowed from one scene to the next. I recommend this book for all parents of little boys! I also think all little boys will enjoy the illustrations!

Great illustrations!
Great story and sweet ending. I've read this so many times to my son, I could probably recite this by heart.
He always puts his head in my lap at the end. :)
Check out Wow City! by the same author.
