I am an Anglo Army chaplain who became the Senior Pastor of a military "Gospel" congregation. Military Gospel congregations have people from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds but typically follow a Black Church model and tradition. I saw this book, bought it, devoured it and then recommended it highly for all of the other chaplains that served with me at that service. It is a great book, esepcially the reflective discussions at the end of each chapter by Black pastors. The authors hit the nail on the head. I have known of Joel Gregory for years and knew of his story of being "saved" for minsitry by the Black churches.

A must read for all minsiters but certainly for those in a Black tradition. They do a great job of giving the "White" tradition and comparing that to the "Black" tradition.

The book is well written and full of information that I think every black church member would benefit from. I learn some things about the black church that I had not pay any attention to. This will make me be more alert and at my best behavior. For you never know who is observing you. I thank God for Rev. william H. Crouch and Rev. Joel C. Gregory for taking on this assignment. I have recommend the book to all of my Church friends and those that are not church members.

This is a great read. I'm working for my dissertation and I read this book as a resource. Dr. Joel Gregory is a awsome preacher. I had the opportunity of hearing him preach. This book gave some great insite for what I'm working on.
