Laura Straus's new What Love Is continues her action-based photographs of real people in real situations. What is extraordinary about the book, beside its fine tight layout and gift-ability, is the way this young photographer captures couples in attitudes of teasing, kissing, consoling, merely sitting together, and leaping into the air near the beach. Young, child-rearing, middle-aged, and aged lovers fill these pages with a complexity that shows love to be many-splendored and many-gestured. Highly recommended.
