Baby Don't Hurt Me...Don't Hurt Me, No More!,
By
This review is from: What Is Luv? (Paperback)
This well-written debut from newcomer Jay Tyvon deals with relationship issues from the male perspective. Main character Justin Vaughn is haunted by events from his childhood that flow over into adulthood, dictating how he deals with love in all facets. As the story is presented, readers are given an up close and personal view into just how complicated it can be to maintain healthy relationships when we are not true to ourselves; ignoring problems that were pushed to the side. We come to find that not only do we suffer, but those around us do also. And in order to break the cycle, instead of searching for love, we must consider its true meaning first. What is Luv? If we fail to be true to ourselves we may never find out, for all true love starts from within.
Mr. Tyvon executed his debut novel with the flair and presentation of a seasoned writer. The characters were presented in a way that the reader could appreciate, chapters were a good length, and the detail provided throughout left no room for assumption on the author's intention. This was a very refreshing read that leaves me anticipating only top-rate work from the author. Honestly...one of the best debuts I have ever read. English ARC Book Club Inc. Star Rating 4.5 STARS

New up and coming author Jay Tyvon brings us a much needed story through the eyes of a man. Justin Vaughn is an A&R Director for Sho' Nuff Entertainment. The plot takes place between Atlanta and Chicago. For me this was a plus because I lived in Atlanta for 12 years and could picture what and where he was describing. As I was reading this book, I am thinking is this going to be your typical "dog `em out story". I kept reading and as more of the story was revealed, it had a meaning to the madness. Justin is what you would call a dog. Due to his past issues (that he has yet to deal with), I have a great understanding of why he does the things he does. Justin is handsome, charming, has a great job and can have his pick of the women along with a few exes scattered around vying for his time also. With age comes maturity, so he gets to point where he wants to settle down. Read the story of Justin to see if his past will come back to haunt him or will he find true luv? This story is well put together. What is Luv will make you laugh, cry, and scream at the characters "What in GOD's name are you doing?" I have to admit the ending came from left field. I was pleasantly surprised that this book was not predictable.
The biggest drawback I had to the book is none of the characters practiced safe sex and with today's issues - that is unheard of. It was not so much that they did not practice safe sex, but that their actions had no repercussions behind them. A scare here and there but it did not get its point across. Big up to newcomer Jay Tyvon for bringing us a story that women want to know. What makes a man act the way he does. When we say men are dogs there, maybe a reason they act the way they do. In the case of Justin, he has unresolved childhood issues. Jay does a great job with the characters, there are no useless characters taking up space in this book. The editing is great, minimal mistakes that make for easy reading. Jay keeps you interested in what all the characters have going on. What is Luv had well over 350 pages that is great for a new author. I look forward to seeing more from Mr. Tyvon. SiStar Tea ARC Book Club Inc. Star rating 4.5

What is Luv?,
By
This review is from: What Is Luv? (Paperback)
If you've always asked the question and received a resounding silence from yourself and others, this is the book to stimulate thought while creatively capturing your attention and leaving you wanting more. As a freshman writer, Jay Tyvon did a remarkable job of pulling the pieces together and giving a refreshing and insightful view of how a man embraces and resists love. He also gave insight into the women that feed or starve the love that a man is capable of. I look forward to seeing more from this author.

What Will It Take To Find True Love?,
By
This review is from: What Is Luv? (Paperback)
What is Luv by Jay Tyvon is written from the male perspective when it comes to finding and keeping love. Justin Vaughn is successful, charming, and a natural born lady killer; with his magnitude he can have any women he wants and does. This story is about a man who is on the hunt for finding true love, but with it right under his face he never realizes that love was in his backyard. Justin has a son, Justice, by Theresha and because of his busy schedule he never spends enough time with them because he is too busy traveling and roaming from bed to bed. Theresha has never moved on from him and secretly pines the love lost. Will she be able to eventually move on with her life and get the man she deserves, or will she settle for being his part-time bed fellow?
By the time Justin finally slows down and decides that he wants to experience love, it is taken from him and he goes into depression. Already missing in action from his son's life, Justin further alienates himself and refuses to man up as well as grow up. Devastated and destraught he is now on a quest to find the meaning of love if it kills him. Still not willing to completely open up he goes from bad relationships to worst. Will Justin get himself together and build a relationship with his son? Can he be open to having a monogamous loving relationship? With all that he has put women through will he be able to love, cherish and honor anyone besides himself? I moved this sentence since it was out of place above...it's a closing statement --This story was long and drawn out and I never really understood what his concept of love was, however, it was mildly entertaining to read from a man's viewpoint. I recommend this book to readers of all genres who are interested in a male's viewpoint on love and relationships. Reviewed by: Cheryl H APOOO BookClub

Silent Cry,
This review is from: What Is Luv? (Paperback)
Meet Mr. Justin Vaughn...a fly and flashy young man who's the hottest A&R rep since Diddy. He's a certifiable ladies man...well...a self-proclaimed bachelor should I say.
Justin's soul purpose is to see how many women he can bed and keep moving. No strings attached, right? Just give me the best sex you can and we are cool. In Justin's life are his son Justice, Justice's mother Theresha, and his brother and only living relative Jerome. Well, their father is actually still alive and fighting for his life. But all of the hurt that they were put through from their father during their childhood keeps Justin from reconciling with him. But it doesn't stop him from continuing his destructive behavioral all throughout the story. After reading What Is Luv?, I'm not really sure what love is. The story went from one day of his life to the next, dragging on for 369 pages. I was completely lost and thought I was going to scream. Justin went from one bad relationship to the next. Once he finally found and understood the meaning of real love, it's taken away from him. It ultimately forces him to step up to the plate and be the man his mother raised him to be. Well, that would be easy had he actually did it. All throughout the story, Justin comes up with the same revelation over and over again in his head; however, I still didn't see him actually put those thoughts to use. I won't say it was a horrible story. What Is Luv? was well written, but the story itself just went on and on, and the pace never changed. Nothing was ever exciting, and I still missed what his definition of love turned out to be. I understood his anguish regarding the way his father treated them while they were growing up, but at what point in life do you move past your childhood and actually grow up? Undecided,

The ladies love Justin Vaughn and Justin Vaughn loves the ladies! It's not until tragedy strikes that this handsome and charming playboy's perspective of life changes.
"What is Luv?" is a lengthy consideration of one man's struggles. This book could have been much more than it is. I found it to be not always on point and drawn out. Quite often it dragged. For this reviewer, it was just an okay read. In its current state, I cannot necessarily say that I would recommend it. The ending leads me to believe that there might be another book to follow. I would only read it to see what happens with the characters. Reviewed by: Marcella
