5.0 out of 5 stars A nice introduction to heirloom plants, with good color illustration, November 27, 2010
I've enjoyed Judy Barrett's other books, and this one does not disappoint. Heirloom plants are growing more important in our world of genetically non-diverse agriculture, and the people who preserve the 'old-time' varieties will have a valuable holding for the future. Plus, heirlooms are just plain beautiful and yummy! Along with rediscovery of the old skills of gardening and preserving one's own food, growing heirlooms is an important homesteading task. The illustrations are simple but lovely and done by Victor Martin, as in Judy's other titles. They are a good partnership.
