Book Description

This is the first book in a series created for children, written by author Rose Mckey. Rose is well-known for her ‘Kitchi The Bear’ series, a collection of adventure stories, also for children. This series, known as the ‘Garden Friends’ series, is a collection of delightful stories for children aged 4 to 8 years old. Each book tells the story of a different character in Moonstone Garden. Father Sun watches over the garden friends each day, and Mother Moon lights their way at night.
Each tale sends a special message to children, which will help them to grow and create their own morals and values. High-quality illustrations help to portray the story and each character well, creating an eye-pleasing journey for children to enjoy.
In this book, Gru the caterpillar watches all of his friends playing, from up in his great big tree. He sees that each of them has something that makes them really special. He wonders to himself, ‘What makes me so special?’ but he can’t find an answer. Father Sun tells him that he does have something special, but he has to wait for the something special to show itself to him. Trusting in Father Sun, Gru waits for the day when he will learn more about himself. What will happen to Gru? What will he learn? What is it that makes him so special? Join him and his garden friends to find out.

5.0 out of 5 stars We enjoy Rose's books. July 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When I purchased Rose's first book, `The Bear Who Could Fly', for my son, I didn't know she would be making more books like it. We found the second in the Kitchi the bear series as much fun, so I bought this to add to our collection. My son enjoys all of her stories and the illustrations too. We look forward to learning more about the other characters in the books to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful characters July 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Rose's characters are always great and full of personality. My children and I have enjoyed this story about Gru and we look forward to reading about his other friends in moonstone garden. The book itself is wonderfully presented and is worth the money I spent.
We look forward to the next story.
My children certainly enjoyed this story about Gru the caterpillar. I like to collect books in a series and am pleased to know that there are more to come. The story is well-written, easy enough for children of a young age to understand, yet I can see that older children might enjoy it as much. The message is great and it's good to know I have spent my money on something that is both entertaining and educational. The illustrations are good too and make the story that much more enjoyable to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for young children. July 3, 2013
By AA
Format:Kindle Edition
I try to keep my children away from the Television as often as I can, because there's a lot of rubbish on these days. I am really happy to see that there are still creative-minded people out there that write stories that are educational and fun for children. This book is great for my five-year-old son, and he likes it very much. He even went outside after I read him the story, to look for caterpillars. We look forward to the other books in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars My daughter enjoyed it... July 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this book for my daughter after having Rose's other books in her `Kitchi the bear' series. Once again I feel she has done a great job in getting a good message across to children. The expressions on each characters face, help to tell the story. My daughter is getting older now, and she also wonders sometimes what makes her special, so she has learnt a lot from this little story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good story by Rose. July 3, 2013

I find Rose’s books to be inspiring for young children, and I believe the messages can actually help children to grow.
The illustrator does a great job, and ties the story together well with her creativity. I have found that all of Rose’s books have been worth their cost.
There are many children’s stories on Amazon, but now I know I will always look out for hers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring for children. July 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
All children love butterflies but not many have ever seen a caterpillar transform into one. This story is well told and my daughter enjoyed it thoroughly. The pictures were great. I like a book with many pictures, like this one has, because it's usually the pictures that make a book so enjoyable.

More About the Author

Quote from Rose: "With two children of my own, I must tell stories! Storytelling has been used as a teaching tool for centuries now. It's the best way to teach a child, knowing they will actually learn something. After all, life without stories would be boring, at least for a 6-year-old!"

Rose McKey began writing as a teenager. By the age of thirty, writing had become her career. Most of her earlier works are animal-based, in both the fiction and non-fiction categories. However, her love for fantasy and adventure led her to produce further books in these genres. More recently her focus has been set on children's tales, where she uses her storytelling talents to relay special and easy to understand messages to children. Storybook characters come to life in each adventure, helping children to better develop their morals and understanding of life.
