More About the Author
Morgan Hughes is the author of more than 25 books of nonfiction. He published his first novel, The Farce News, in 2006. The sequel to The Farce News, entitled The Teflon Camels, will be available in the winter of our discontent, or 2011, which ever comes second. He is currently working on a new novel, Go Get the Varmint.

Since you asked, Morgan was born in New York City. His father was a photographer, cinematographer and videographer -- in other words, a cameraman. His mother was a school teacher and social researcher -- in other words, the wife of a ne'er do well and the mother of two mischievous sons. Morgan graduated from the High School of Music & Art in New York City in 1975 where he was a cellist, and later enrolled at Hunter College in Manhattan as an English major. Derailed by a life of crime -- that is, getting paid to cover the National Hockey League -- he dropped out of college and surrounded himself with Canadians and other frozen foreigners. He moved to the Twin Cities when he was 30, just in time to watch the Minnesota North Stars wrenched from town (Dallas-bound) by shady money changers. He subsequently lived in Lancaster, PA, and Granby, CT, before returning to Minnesota in 2007.
The details of his personal life -- i.e., sisters, brothers, wives, children, cats, dogs, etc. -- are heavily guarded secrets. If he divulged them, he might have to kill someone. Suffice to say he's had all of the above at one time or another.
Before turning full-time to writing fiction, Morgan worked as a freelance journalist. He has written countless magazine articles and more than two dozen books on the subject of hockey -- retrospective volumes on the NHL's great history as well as biographies of some if its greatest players. He has also written many children's and young adult nonfiction books on track and field, as well as miscellaneous sports covering everything from cheerleading (how miscellaneous can you get?) to snowboarding, baseball, basketball, soccer, and ice skating. His most recent nonfiction work, entitled "What Makes Me A Unitarian" was published by KidHaven Books in 2006.
For more than 20 years, Morgan's been a professional pedal steel guitarist in a variety of honky tonk and alternative country bands. Along with his Minneapolis-based writing partner, Roger Johnson, he co-wrote the CD "Stag Cotillion" which was released in 2010. He currently plays with Roy Dawson & the Bootleggers in the Twin Cities area.
When he's not writing or playing gigs, Morgan can often be found -- but only if you send out a search party -- on the back roads of Minnesota aboard his Eddy Merckx Titanium Ax bicycle, logging long, slow miles and otherwise hiding out from the federales and anyone else who might want to threaten his precarious vibe.
