What Makes Us Glow is Psapp's fourth full-length record and is released through The state51 Conspiracy on November 11th.

What Makes Us Glow is a vast hypercolour psychedelic whirl of an album, with intricate orchestration, layered vocals and a pioneering spirit. These songs thrum, buzz and glow.

Orchestrated with home built instruments, What Makes Us Glow is bursting with swampy drones of recorded ambience and plenty of raw sounds - Psapp relish in combining unusual musical elements (this record includes Galia's rhythmic snores, boxes of writhing mealworms, their homemade boneaphone - a marimba made from bones - and the groans of milk-laden cows) alongside the more standard instruments: piano, violin, oud and organs.

Lyrically it is an exercise in emotional stocktaking. These are songs of attachment, detachment and the slow realisation of what is essential. This is not the sound of a band finding their way; it is the sound of band having arrived at their destination. There is a powerful sense that they are in full control of their sound and revelling in the possibilities.

Some bands disappear, either dissolving into a mess of acrimony or slowly drifting apart as life tugs them in different directions but for Psapp, the pull to continue creating together conquered distance and all the complications of being alive. The inherent joy of being together and creating magic little songs still shines through.

Psapp are eternally glued together whether they like it or not.

I have listened to Psapp for years, I consider myself a more die-hard fan. Psapp's latest album doesn't really go anywhere new, but I am very satisfied with it. Aside from a few standout tracks in Psapp's overall discography, most of the time Psapp's sound is like a storybook: it is a slow-burn that will become part of you after months and years. This album is no exception; on my first listen I thought "Wow, this isn't anything special," but after a few more listens it finally "clicked." This is the background to a happy story book, and it provides as much ambiance as ambient music does.

I have a lot of love for these musicians and their productions.Their music is a bit difficult to explain in words but it is both melancolic and soothing, ecclectic and energizing. A fun little fact about them is that they are known to use toys in their musical creations (which has been called by some Toytronica).
On a ore personal note, Psapp has helped me greatly in times of anxiety: as said before, there is something soothing about their music that brings me back to a sense of calm. I like Psapp so much I bought their four CD album and will soon purchase their two digital ones.

I love Psapp. Love love. This album has a fun spirit throughout.. with a few special songs.. but overall it just doesn't have as much standout amazing stuff as previous albums. I wanted so much more magic and effort to make funky fun fun fun meows. Perhaps this is a bit overproduced? Not enough to grab onto and love. This made me a bit sad. But at least they're making musics again! YAY BUY IT BECAUSE IT IS PSAPPY.
