Written long before he became well known for being (then presidential candidate) Barack Obama's radical pastor,Jeremiah Wright had been preaching an uplifting inspiring message that people of all levels of societal status, educational, or income levels could relate to. These sermons will renew the faith of anyone who may be feeling downtrodden. Though written decades ago, the message is still relevant today.

What Makes You So Strong, is a book that gives the reader information in an afrocentric, biblical context. Jeremiah Wright is a poet who uses metaphors, alliteration devices at the top of excellence in the craft of writing and expression. This book is useful for not only bible students, but those whose lives have spiraled into drugs, or other destructive life paths; and those who need motivation to stay straight and focused on life goals orfor those who just need some encouragement while being oppressed with struggles economically, or socially.

My grandmother gave me her copy of the book while I was away at college. This was at least 10 years ago. I recently picked it up again to re-read. It is such a blessing and just as timely as it was over 10 years ago. In "When God is Silent" - from the 1991 Sermon Series Dr. Wright preaches about what we can learn during those times God is Silent. 1. frustration, 2 communication 3 anticipation. It is frustrating to hear about violence in my community. That apparent silence from God forces us/me to communicate with God. Not to continue to talk and rattle off with our list of demands (sometimes hidden as prayers) but to really communicate with God. Let your faith remind you that God is doing something about it - maybe not on your timetable. This was truly a sermon of Joy and Strength.

I have seen or heard Rev. Dr. Wright deliver the sermons before therefore the books served as a way of perserving past memories and renewing my faith. I have Watt's picture entitled Hope in my study. It reminds me that God is faithful and able...and my responsibilty trust Him to work everything to my good. God promise to always be with me can be trusted.

This pastor has a reputation for being a left wing radical. This book shows him instead as being an inspiring preacher reaching out with the Spirit of God to a diverse group of hurting and suffering people. Highly recommended.

This is a very inspirational reading. These Sermons promote joy and strength by reminding us of God's promises. It gives examples of how God keeps his word. We can rest in him knowing that it's already done!!

Loved this book. Very good read. I admire and respect the Reverend Jeremiah Wright very much. He reminds me of my granddad who was a mans man. Honest, strong, hard working, and God fearing.

A good look into the mind of a pulpit master. I would recommend it for anyone interested in preparing sermons that are relevant to the African-American community.
