Donny Is Better Than Ever!!!,
By
This review is from: What I Meant to Say (Audio CD)
My cd arrived today and I absolutely love this cd. I love Donny's cover versions of "Right Here Waiting" and "This guy's in Love with You", which Donny recorded in his younger days. It demonstrates just how far Donny has come.
I love the songs that Donny co-wrote with a number of people. Where it used to be that Donny usually sang songs written by others (with the exception of a few), with this cd, Donny has come into his own to include composer to his list of talents as a singer and musician. Buy this cd. If you are not a fan of Donny, you will after purchasing this cd. Excellent job Donny. I have been a fan of yours for many years and I continue to be a proud fan.

He Definitely Said What He Meant to Say!,

This review is from: What I Meant to Say (Audio CD)
Let me make it clear that it's not just middle aged ladies with recurring dreams of a pre-pubescent Donny crooning "The Twelfth of Never" who appreciate his music. This middle aged GUY has admired his music ever since he joined his brothers many years ago, and gained a new respect for him as a performer when he toured in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" for seven years.
However this CD is monumental because it features mostly his own work, a step his fans have long awaited. Believe me, they are glad they waited! "What I Meant to Say", (the title track) has the apparent meaning of a guy who wished he would have said what was in his heart when he had the chance, and the deeper meaning of a fine performer who has sung other people's music for all his career, and now gets to share his own. "Breeze On By" Donny's lyrics over the Bobby Womack/George Benson favorite takes you down the coastal highway on a sunny day with the top down. "Keep Her In Mind" Think of Antonio Banderas with a decent voice. "One Dream" Originally written for the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Games. Everyone hold hands around the torch (and forget the two dinosaurs in the closing ceremony!) "In It for Love" Up tempo with great chord changes. "Right Here Waiting" A cover I like better than the original. "My Perfect Rhyme" For his lovely wife, Debbie. From the heart. "Shoulda' Known Better" My personal favorite. A neo-disco foot tapper that just makes ya smile. "Whenever You're in Trouble" Written for his sons, a father's love never was made clearer. "Insecurity" Donny takes the rap for this hip tune. "This Guy's In Love With You" For those quiet moments with your partner when you want the music to say it all. "Broken Man" How many ways can I say I'm sorry? I urge you to forget anything you know about Donny, and just listen. Let the music speak to you. You won't regret it.

Music That Is Good For The Soul,
By Belchazer (S.F. Bay Area) - See all my reviews
This review is from: What I Meant to Say (Audio CD)
Well I have now listened to this CD about 8 or 9 times and after reading all 35 reviews of this album I think I am ready to put in my 2 cents. For many years Donny Osmond wanted to prove that he was a "Rocker", and although he is fully capable of doing harder material, the public has never really afforded him the opportunity. In this album I think Donny has found his niche. One reviewer has called this CD "Good elevator music". I think that statement is simply incorrect. This music has a level of maturity to it that I am grateful to hear. If this is elevator music then George Benson has been making a good buck off of it for alot of years. "What I Meant To Say", "Breeze On By", "My Perfect Rhyme", and "Broken Man" are very strong tracks. My personal favorite is the Bacharach and David hit "This Guy's In Love With You". Donny Osmond always wanted to rival Michael Jackson. What Donny Osmond needs to remember is that all we need from him is to be the best Donny Osmond he can be. This album is a very big step in that direction.
