Book Description

A little boy offers advice on what NOT to give your mom on Mother's Day, unless she's an animal. For example, don't give her a rotting log unless she's a salamander, or a bunch of flies unless she's a spider! What would Mom like best?

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful book... June 24, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Every time I read this book to my 3 year old daughter, we both laugh with delight. It is a predictable book, but given the target audience of ages 3 and up, that is perfectly fine. The story goes through multiple things of not to give your mother on Mother's Day. "Not a bucket of big, fat worms...unless she is a bird. Not a mud puddle...unless she is a pig." I just love the giggles that this book elicits from my daughter. For that reason, it is not a good bedtime book, but we enjoy it at other times of the day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Newbury winner, but cute... July 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I purchased this book to read to my daughter's class on the day they celebrated Mother's Day. It was cute and appealed to boys on what "gross" stuff not to give mom on Mother's Day and it was a hit with the 4-5 year old crowd.

This is the best Mother's Day-themed book I've ever read, picture book or otherwise. It's simple, cute, witty, nicely illustrated, hilarious, genius, great for boys.. just great, in general.

The plot itself is simple enough. A boy explains what NOT to give your Mother for Mother's Day--for example, "Do NOT give her a bucket of big, fat worms..."--but then clever adds: "unless she is a bird."

Everybody knows you gotta add animals to a picture book to make it, and it works here too, but more than that I think it speaks a message of diversity which is very important. Families are all different and Mothers are all different. I love that this book says that without really saying it. It's also hilarious, because what isn't funnier than a little boy innocently giving nasty Mother's Day gifts?

Overall, this is a wonderful book that will instantly become a Mother's Day tradition. What's more, I think it's smart enough that youngsters will want to read it year round. The illustrations are great fun and the story is a joy to read aloud. I highly recommend it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK. May 23, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I have four boys and got this book for them. The book is fun to read it just doesnt really flow very well if you know what I mean. The pictures though are what help out alot. The illustrations are fun to look at and make the book a lot better. My boys really liked it though and loved to think up their own things that would be funny to give their mom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mom Loved It! May 14, 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I've never written a book review, but this book was so cute that I had to. It was a perfect gift for Mothers Day. It's simple, a quick read, funny and adorable. Someone gave it a bad review saying it's not very funny, but it's a kids book. I mean, it's not supposed to be a comedy. It's just something cute to give Mom on Mothers Day. We thought it was clever, perfect and well done!

A perfect book for toddlers. It has cause and effect with simple phrasing. I also loved the pop up text reading feature.
