So Old It May Be New, January 15, 2012
This review is from: What to Name Your Baby (Paperback)
This book was first published in 1964, then updated in 1982. At this point the names inside are so old that they may have gone full circle and become current again. I really like the information given after each name: it's so thorough and interesting that parents could use their imagination to come up with new names just from the information.
For instance, here's the listing for a boy's name (that also happens to be a girl's name):
DALE Germanic "valley." Fem. DALE. THAL, the original form of this name, appears in the last names Lillienthal, Rosenthal, and Thaler. The word "dollar," originally "thaler," comes from the name given to coins first minted (1519) in Joachimsthal, St. Joachim's Valley in Bohemia.
