Marvelous illustrations here. And obviously words straight from the
preachers' mouths on how life is affecting them in their peculiar
situations. I learned a lot in a short while.

One thing was indelibly impressed on me: that we are so far removed from
their personal lives, we know little (and probably for that reason,
sometimes express seeming disinterest). Theirs is a fishbowl existence while at the same time they face many of the challenges those of us in the pews are facing. We forget that they are human with material, emotional and other needs like ours, too.

This book puts it in perspective. It's a good reminder that we need to reacquaint ourselves with the personal sides of our pastors -- to see their hurts, their dreams, their responsibilities, their pressures -- from a realistic standpoint.

Denise George has done thorough research and those who read her book, I predict, will be blessed. And so surely will their pastors.

I read this book as soon as my husband put it down, and I finished it in one sitting (just as he did). Denise George surveyed hundred of ministers from 40 denominations in the US and abroad. The results were strikingly similar. While ministry life is rewarding and fulfilling in many areas, this book gives a voice to things most pastors and their families are not usually free to talk about. If you truly care about the ministers in your life and their families, READ THIS BOOK and then pass it along to someone else.

We wonder why such a high percentage of churches are stagnant and declining. Churches can only be as strong as their leaders are. Sometimes leaders are limited by a lack of education or ability, but sometimes they are limited by the very people they serve. Denise George offers great insights to ponder and effective ways you can minister to your ministers.

Please consider buying this book and make a difference in a minister's family - and ultimately your church.

After reading this insightful account of pastors who have shared their thoughts and hearts with the author, I suggested it to my husband, who is on our Pastor Search Committee. He agreed, that sharing this book would be helpful to the committee as they review resumes and interview men to fill this spot for our congregation. Too often, we take pastors for granted and forget that they, too, are our brothers in Christ, with needs and limitations in their humanity. Thank you, Ms.George, for compiling this book.
