4.0 out of 5 stars What The Peeper Saw. A Brief Review
What The Peeper Saw, aka. "Night Child", is the story of a troubled boy with a genius IQ, who, upon his arrival home from boarding school, immediately begins to plant the seeds of suspicion and distrust between his father and new stepmother. Marcus, played by Mark Lester, proves to be an extremely dangerous child, who won't hesitate to kill anyone he simply dislikes...

1.0 out of 5 stars FALSE DESCRIPTION ON COVER! AWFUL DVD!
The front cover says that there are two versions on the DVD. There are not. And, the film has been cut in two places! The key scene (where the mother dies in the bath) is one scene that is not shown! On the back cover, it says 'Digitally Remastered' but, again, it is not! It is a very poor copy from a VHS! All of this is totally dishonest and it is against the law for any...

All of this is totally dishonest and it is against the law for any company or individual to give such a false description. Those consumers in America who have bought it should complain to the relevant legal body in America about "Substance", the label who have released this atrocious DVD. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one individual copying the film in a back room! I am in England and so don't know where to complain. Anyone who bought it should, like myself, get your money back! DO NOT BUY THIS TERRIBLE, ILLEGAL DVD!

3.0 out of 5 stars What the Peeper Saw is not a 2 version DVD!!, September 6, 2007
This review is from: What the Peeper Saw (DVD)
Dispite what Amazon is advertising above, this is not a Two Version DVD. You will only receive the U.S. Theatrical version of this movie. The Uncut "Night Child" version is not on the DVD.

The movie is ok although it is a bit odd and the latter part of the movie is hard to follow.

3.0 out of 5 stars "What the Peeper Saw", or "Oliver goes Psycho", September 13, 2000

A beautiful woman makes the torturous discovery that her angelic-looking stepson murdered his real mother, and has good reason to believe that the evil child may have similarly sinister plans for her. What at first may seem like a cheap, sleazy exploitation flick(that title doesn't help much), turns out to be a lurid, exciting thriller that is more concerned with plot and character than supplying cheap thrills and is all the better for it. The film is aided by a strong cast, including Mark Lester(the little waif in the award-winning musical "OLIVER!") who is chillingly good and believable every second as the disturbed youngster. Lester's rendition of THE BAD SEED is far more believable than Macaulay Culkin's in 1993's THE GOOD SON. The beautiful and sexy Britt Ekland also does well with her role as the bedeviled stepmother. Luis Cuadrado and Harry Waxman's striking photography of the Spanish locations also adds much.

As other reviewers have noted, key scenes are completely missing from this DVD. I wish I had checked the reviews before wasting my money. Don't make the same mistake!

This is a fascinating and disturbing movie, and I plan to buy the complete, uncut version when I can find one. But this is definitely not it.

Marcus, played by Mark Lester, proves to be an extremely dangerous child, who won't hesitate to kill anyone he simply dislikes. There is a great deal of sexual tension between Marcus and his young stepmother (Britt Eklund). The ending is a total surprise. I believe that you'll find this film interesting as well as somewhat disturbing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Surely, This is an Ed Wood Production, September 1, 2007
This review is from: What the Peeper Saw (DVD)
I am not sure what possessed me to buy this travesty. I think it was because the I enjoyed the Musical Movie "Oliver" so much, that I wanted to see Mark Lester in a role reversal. There are so many flaws to this movie that I do not have the time or the inclination to list them all. This particular issue appears to have been copied from an very Old VHS tape that had been played a couple of hundred times. As far as the production values go, the entire movie has the feel of an Ed Wood B- movie. The script, the filming, the music, and the acting are all 2nd and 3rd rate. As far as suspense goes, there is none. To give you an example of bad production, about half way through the movie, the dialog stops and the so called suspenseful music begins as if something frightening may occur. This continues as we watch Father, son, and step-mother have a dinner in a restaurant. Just as suddenly the music started for no apparent reason, it stops and the dialog resumes. It was like the director had this suspense music commissioned but had no real place to use so he just threw it in. Ed Wood would have thought that to be Oscar worthy....and oh yes, Mark Lester is about as believable as an evil child as McCauley Caukin was in the Good Son. The audience laughed at that movie and I am sure they did also at this one when it was first released.

This was originally a 95 min. film (uncut). At 72 mins - well, what's the point? Buyer beware!

4.0 out of 5 stars Peep this!, March 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: What the Peeper Saw [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A wonderful, if cheaply made, variation of The Bad Seed. Not many people know or care about this film, despite a fine performance by Britt Ekland and astounding performances by Mark Lester and Lilli Palmer.
Peep into this film: the indecent sexual tension between Lester and Ekland, the booze soaked tirade Ekland unleashes on Lester (after getting reckless with the lawn mower - she screams at him, "You're a FREAK!"), and a whiz bang final 15 minutes that leave you crying for more!
So it was shot with two cameras, no lighting, and no costumes? Who cares! It's devilishly fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars Oliver Goes Bad?, October 13, 2004
This review is from: What the Peeper Saw [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A young boy seemingly troubled, a father who seems blind to whats going on....this inexpensive movie about a young man whos father gets remarried and he spends his time trying to cause a fift between his stepmom ans his father. The woman makes the discovery that her stepson murdered his real mother, and believes that the boy may have similar plans for her. The sexual tension between Marcus and Elise (Lester and Ekland) is simply riviting and maybe a big shocking! Good Movie!

4.0 out of 5 stars So, what the peeper saw?, November 4, 2009
This review is from: What the Peeper Saw (DVD)
A young stepmother obsessed with intention to disclose her husband's first wife death case interacts with pre-teen sex-obsessed stepson with twists unexpected.

A really interesting story, nice performing - all but a technical presentation of a modern DVD film version, EXTRAS-short, poor visually and cut to an extent of ruining a very plot of.
