5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT
One of the best series I have seen. I am a die hard fan of Kim Rae Won. You must also see Love story in Harvard , starring , of course Kim Rae Won.
The leading actress is also very awsome.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unconvincing and utterly unbelievable in almost every way
What Planet Are You From is a somewhat low-budget looking love story starring Kim Rae-Won as Mr. Choi, and Jeong Ryeo-Won as the female lead Bok-shil. Mr. Choi is an almost-famous film director who becomes interested in the country bumpkin Bok-shil because she looks familiar. The series for the most part fails on all fronts as a convincing love story.

How can...

5.0 out of 5 stars The best!, December 29, 2007
This review is from: What Planet Are You From? (DVD)
This is by far the best Korean drama I've seen. I've been waiting for this to be released forever and I'm so glad that more people will get to experience it now. It makes you laugh and cry, sometimes all at the same time. You can tell that the characters really learn something from their journey together but you don't get any of the standard cliches. When I was in between discs I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next!

the material was delivered on time & in good condition. i've watched the drama 3X already & still want to watch it. i like kim rae won, he is ruggedly handsome in this drama, i just ordered his other drama Love Story in Harvard. i find jung ryeo won cute, they look good together, their chemistry is 'wow!'. this k drama is one of the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart Warming, January 18, 2009

This is one of my favorites KDramas. Why, you may ask? The protagonists have great chemistry, you can see they have a strong Romeo and Juliet scenario where they are kept apart by family (mainly Hye Rim's mother and the lingering spirit of her sister), and seeing such a silly country bumpkin go from planting potatoes to such a dazzling life but still feel humble is nice to see. I would recommend this to anyone who is new to the KDrama world or just wants to see a great drama.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best K-Drama's I've Seen, February 15, 2007
This review is from: What Planet Are You From? (DVD)
What Planet Are You From is one of the funnier K-dramas. I've been waiting for this one to come out on DVD since last year. The only thing that's somewhat confusing is that they used the same actress for both sisters, so i wasn't sure which one he was dating. Other than that, I thought the show was awesome. It has a good ending, unlike some other shows which have a bitter-sweet or disappointing ending. What Planet Are You From, Glass Slipper, and My Lovely Sam Soon are my top three K-Dramas, in that order;)

How can the love story be convincing when I as a viewer was actually rooting against their supposed love. What we really have here is a story about two young spoiled brats who cause trouble for everyone around them. These brats are given every opportunity by others, including potential promising careers, but they squander them.

They also seem to like each other more when they are apart. When they are together its obvious they don't belong together even though they try to convince each other and us that they do. The only time they are not miserable together is when they kick a soccer ball around to each other. I am still not sure which event bored me into a depression more: them playing soccer, or them singing Silent Night Holy Night.

This series is 16 episodes and takes its sweet time before all the parameters of the story are known including a somewhat half-baked attempt at a love triangle. What we get early on is mostly over-acting by the female lead and her mother who try to be hillbillies but instead come off looking almost mentally retarded. The male lead's attitude is somewhat understated which was actually nice to see as many of the males in other kdramas are sometimes portrayed as crazy men. Many of the other actors also have that understated attitude about them and that helped get me through this series.

There is no sense of believability in the story until we get to the first part of the final episode. Things happen here that finally got my emotions stirring. It did not last long however. The remaining part of the final episode reverted back to the stupidity that this series is.

Besides the love story, the other main thread of this series is the fact that Mr Choi is suppose to be working on making a movie. We never get to see the actual making of this movie until the end of the series, and it is only for a few moments. The only hint that he was actually working on a movie through this series were occasional conference room meetings. A potential conflict with another film director was established early on and that really went nowhere as well.

There are also plenty of filming errors that occur if you look for them. The car accident scene contains frames where you can easily see that the road was closed by traffic cones as the accident occurred. Also plenty of camera-crew reflections from glass doors etc.

There are some good performances by some of the supporting characters including Mrs. Lee and Mr Choi's assistant, who I would like to see star in his own kdrama.

When I think about this series, I know there is a good story in there somewhere. It has plot elements that should have been very interesting, but whoever made this surely could not pull it off for some reason.

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm Still Confused, August 17, 2011
This review is from: What Planet Are You From? (DVD)
Why? The leading character Bok-Shil was a person in her twenties but acted more like she was 12 or maybe perhaps 15. She didn't act naive she acted like she was somewhat touched.

Her birth mother and her adopted mother had no say and both act dimwitted like her it was somewhat contagious. For someone in her twenties to be still sporting pippi longstocking braids I wanted to unbraid her hair and give her some commonsense. Did she ever go to school and get her high school diploma and what exactly did she do for a living? These are lasting questions in my mind and what exactly type of an engagement party did they decide upon ?

If you ever find the answers to these question please tell me......

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't look for Ben Kingsley in this drama, August 12, 2009
This review is from: What Planet Are You From? (DVD)
Well, I wanted to like this more, but the ending was really sloppy, and can't say I didn't walk away from this drama wishing they had done some other things in the story. It is a bit distracting that the female lead, who is very cute, also looks like she is 13 years old, which is kinda disturbing when you see her with the male lead. I know she's not really that young, and when she's out of pigtails, she can look older, but the "country" version of her was distracting. I liked most of the supporting characters, and there were some really nice moments, but after about 10 episodes, the next 5 episodes seem to be on loop. Maybe I'm too harsh, but after seeing Boys Over Flowers, Coffee Prince, etc., this definitely pales.
