About the Author

Alvin R. Mahrer Ph.D., is the author of 21 books and approximately 250 other publications on psychotherapy. Currently, he is a Professor Emeritus at the School of Psychology, University of Ottawa and recipient of the Researcher of the Year Award from that University. Dr. Mahrer has also been honoured by several Divisions of the American Psychological Association with a Distinguished Psychologist Award, as a Living Legend in Psychotherapy, and a recipient of the Rollo May Award for Pursuit of New Frontiers of Knowledge. In the book Current Psychotherapies, Raymond Corsini refers to Mahrer s experiential psychotherapy as revolutionary as was Freud's 100 years ago and Carl Rogers 50 years ago. What Psychotherapy Is For? is another dialogue in a recent series of thought provoking and revolutionary books exploring the transformation of the human condition - The Optimal Person and its companion volume - The Manual of Optimal Behaviors are earlier books which are part of this tradition.
