Inspiring, yet Practical . . . an Unbeatable Combination!!!,
By Pam Silvers (Asheville, NC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: What Queen Esther Knew: Business Stategies from a Biblical Sage (Hardcover)
An ancient whistleblower and hero, Queen Esther provides incredibly valuable strategies for women today. What did Queen Esther know? More than you'd ever believe! Esther was strategic and understood the importance of mapping out her plan of attack. She was an astute communicator who chose her words carefully and deliberately. She understood the subtleties of "palace protocol" and how to penetrate the inner circles of power. I found it fascinating to discover the contemporary relevance of this ancient tale. Glaser and Smalley have established themselves as leading authorities on what it takes for women to be successful today. Great "royal" advice. A must read!

This is the most insightful book for business women that I've read. Glaser and Smalley do a fine job parsing the Queen Esther story and applying it to the modern business world. Women in business have to be more subtle about how they advance their careers and Queen Esther is a great example of that. Networking, researching (including gossip!), timing, finding mentors, etc. -- all intertwine to create strategic game plans that women can use to nurture their careers. I liked this book so much that I given away over 30 copies to business women I know.

Common Sense Success,
By Marilyn Fragiacomo (West Palm Beach, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: What Queen Esther Knew: Business Stategies from a Biblical Sage (Hardcover)
You probably won't find this book on required reading lists for an MBA, but if being a successful businesswoman -- or even a successful woman period -- matters to you, then "What Queen Esther Knew" is essential reading. The authors have taken a story of palace intrigue from the bible, and translated the lessons into useful advice for modern-day women. Just in case you didn't know, Queen Esther became the most powerful woman in the Persian empire even though she was an exiled orphan. What the authors point out is that more important than her beauty or her charm was her innate ability to strategize, persuade others, take risks, and use her intelligence at every turn. These are skills that any woman (in business or not) would find useful. Since so many business books today are either technical textbooks or self-aggrandizing stories of success, "What Queen Esther Knew" is a welcome addition to any working woman's library. I liked learning that many of the skills we think were just ushered in during the era of feminists, were actually an important part of life during the biblical era. Glaser and Smalley give their book a modern feel by providing "real-women" examples that correlate with the advice they (i.e., Queen Esther) offer. This takes "What Queen Esther Knew" from a book full of theory into one of valuable and practical application

Learnings from Connie and the Queen!,
By Joyce Tull (Cincinnati, OH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: What Queen Esther Knew: Business Stategies from a Biblical Sage (Hardcover)
"What Queen Esther Knew" is a wonderful parallel of the story from the Bible about a great woman leader and survivor, and how today's women can be true leaders on their own terms. When a woman puts her mind to accomplishing a priority, there's nothing that can stop her! The story of Esther truly provides the motivation and validation that we need to rely on our own hearts and spirituality to guide us throughout our professional and personal lives. On the other hand, the story clearly defines how we must learn to accept reality and strategize our success... it doesn't just happen because "we're in the right place at the right time". It happens because we have strategized our working relationships, our professional expertise, and our timing to be ready when the opportunity presents itself. Connie and Barbara have brought together a story from our history with stories from our present for us to learn and grow from. Thank you both!

Similarities between moden businessweman and Queen Esther,
By
This review is from: What Queen Esther Knew: Business Stategies from a Biblical Sage (Hardcover)
The book is about professional success. The two most important points for a successful career, emphasized by the authors, are professional image and mentors. "Find a mentor to open your eyes and doors. Mentors are more important to career success than hard work, talent, intelligence."
The authors analyze many case studies of successful women in modern organizations and find analogies in their actions with Queen Esther's actions. These similarities are very interesting. I like this book because it has many references to good titles about mentors, professional image, business affairs, etc. After completing this book, you will definitely know what to read next.

Queen Esther... Royalty Reigns Supreme,

This review is from: What Queen Esther Knew: Business Stategies from a Biblical Sage (Hardcover)
What Queen Esther Knew takes the well-known Biblical story of Esther and uses her wisdom, smarts and savvy to relate to our current business world.
It was a pleasure to revisit the story of Queen Esther and learn how ancient wisdom applies to today. Connie Glaser not only has the ability to analyze behaviors that succeed and correspond those actions to ones we can take in our lives, she also breathes life into a favorite heroine who rose above adversity and helped save her people. It is an informative, easy to read book that is an inspiration as well as an education. |
