Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I was inspired to write this book because several friends asked how I was always in such a good mood.  Even with all the trails and tribulations that were happening:
  • Become unemployed, being under employed
  • Car breakdowns
  • Friends on death beds and eventually dying
  • A break-in at my home
They wanted to know what I was doing to stay so positive and upbeat about life.  I examined what I was doing and found that I used gratitude. But I also discovered 3 things:
  1. I focus on the positives in my life.
  2. I ignore negative emotions as they make me fell bad and drain my energy
  3. I don't let others influence how I feel.
Sounds simple, but it can be hard to implement and requires daily attention.  We are electrical beings.  And we generate a small electrical field.  You and I live in an ocean of emotion and energy.  It takes effort and energy  to avoid all the negative material floating around.

Therefore, I consciously focus on what is good and right in my life and believe that others can do the same to improve their world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great easy read! December 5, 2011
By Regina

I really enjoyed this quick book! You find it alot easier to achieve the attitude of gratitude by reinforcing the issue every day. By glancing at sections of this book you can realign your thinking neuropathways. It is so easy to get down and lose your focus on being positive with so many negatives in the world. This book will easily turn you back around quickly since it is an easy, get to the point read. I have found that by having a gratitude notebook, just as the author suggested, has helped me tremendously in putting me in a positive mind frame in the morning and before I go to bed. You will have a better day and sleep better as well and it takes less than 5 minutes! This would be a great thing for a X-mas present along with a crafty gratitude notebook for anybody. I plan to do this for my mother who has been on an anti-depressant and looking to go on a stronger one. If you focus on the good instead of the bad there may be no need for an anti-depressant. Highly recommend reading!!!!

I battled depression in college and wished I had read something like this book. I think it would have helped me dodge that very painful bullet or at the very least, helped me toward a speedy recovery. I would have had much better tools for controlling the negative thoughts that were invisibly holding me captive.

It's obvious from reading this book that Hart lives what she writes and that makes for a book with genuine authority. I like the many personal examples, and I loved the dozens of great inspiring (and for me instructional) quotes that have been compiled into a complete chapter. This is a quick beneficial read and if there were a course called Life 101, this should be part of the required reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Succinct & poignant September 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a very good little book, and a great investment for such a low price. You can read it quickly & get a lot out of it. It is a good reminder to count your blessings, and offers simple suggestions for actually doing just that. It isn't new agey or religious, it is just good information for a good life. It is totally worth getting and referring back to when you feel down or you catch yourself complaining. It is almost like having a wise friend there to tell you what to do to pick yourself back up and recognize what is great about your life and truly feel gratitude.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a difference an attitude of gratitude makes September 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is a brilliant wake up call to remind us all to be grateful for what we have. The biggest message I got was that by focusing on what we need to be grateful for, we don't have time to dwell on the things we are dissatisfied about. A good, quick read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, quick read that gets ya thinking September 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
DL's "What Is Gratitude?" will certainly get ya thinking... This book's filled with all kinds of great questions, prompts, and activities to get grounded back in being grateful. She remind's us that all-in-all, we've got it pretty good :) While it's not a terribly revolutionary piece of writing, it gets your mind moving and is certainly worth the price.
I gave it 4-stars because the information is good, the concepts are great, it just falls a bit flat in some of the writing. So if you're looking for hype, this isn't it. Want some productive and healthy pondering? Then this is it...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Re - Newed Reason for the Season December 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am the first to confess that as I settled down into reading the book I was disappointed in the depth in which it approached the subject. There is nothing to show the reader in "how-to" move from a lesser state of being into the state of being grateful. Being well versed in the subject matter and having written short articles in it, I subconsciously challenged the book to give me a new thought by which I could soar into the depths of the subject of Gratitude instead of the same old, mundane, surface, platitudes that were once spoken and then written, taking on a life of their own with unattached and disjointed meaning from one platitude to the next.

But then I had to stop and rethink the purpose of reading the pages of the book. I was unfairly reading it through my expectations of what, in my perception, it should produce for me rather than the scope of the work in which it was written by the author.

I decided to reread the book and give it a fair chance to be read within the boundaries in which it was written. I tapped on the "Go To" in my Kindle reader and proceeded to analyze the cover of the book in order to neutralize any expectations. I discovered in studying the cover that when I peel back the veneer of my expectations then there are new truths - secrets to be uncovered. I began rereading the contents and found that the same old, same old, mundane, platitudes now took on magical expressions with new worth. That indeed there were nuggets of truth to be discovered in each. I took out paper and pencil and rated each individual magical expression on a scale of 1 - 10 in how it related to my own present experience in gratitude.

It is the Holiday Season. I asked how this rating now translated into my attitude towards the Reason for the Season.
