Nice for anecdotes, but ...,

... Not much in the way of concrete advice. Still, a fun read and easily digestible. It's good for giving a taste of what landlording can be at the extremes. From my (limited) experience, landlording isn't much different than homeownership, provided you screen your tenants well and get everything in writing, letting the tenants know what to expect when they adhere to the contract, and when they don't. This book points out some of the more interesting aspects of landlording, but it's like watching COPS: You only see the out-there stuff, not the routine stops. That said, go ahead and buy it -- just buy it used. :-)

Short, Pithy, Practical-Thumbs Up!,
This review is from: What No One Ever Tells You About Investing in Real Estate : Real-Life Advice from 101 Successful Investors (Paperback)
This book is like sitting down and brainstorming with a roomful of friends and mentors who share their "good, bad, and ugly" stories about real estate investing. It is not only very accessible because of its short story anthology style, it has 100's of practical ideas for every investor. The stories inspire, without glossing over the very real difficulties of real estate investing. It is both entertaining and useful. I hope there is a sequel in the works.

Not worth the money,

I did not feel this book provided anything that the new real life entry level investor needs.I thought this would be informative information that would have real value, but instead got a collection of stories. It was like a collection of stories to help the investors that have already made it, but not the real stories to prevent the everyday small investor from making the entry level mistakes.

This is an excellent read to really get an understanding of how well and how poorly managing rental properties can be. It is a short read filled with stories of rental property owners. I've read several books over the past couple months. This is definitely worth your time. If nothing else, you will walk away with stories with possible solutions to reference for your future.
This does not cover financing properties much at all, but it is not the point of the book. I'm now reading "The Weekend Millionaire's Secrets to Investing in Real Estate"- corny title but this book is also excellent...it reviews financing more in detail.

Worthless,
This review is from: What No One Ever Tells You About Investing in Real Estate : Real-Life Advice from 101 Successful Investors (Paperback)
Not much substance here, just a collection of 'stories' from other people. Money is best spent elsewhere with an author who has actually done real estate deals, not just collect stories from others.

Don't bother with this book,

If you want to read real estate stories just pick up the weekend newspaper and read the Q&A articles in the real estate section. This book doesn't seem to offer any more useful info than those. At least you can read the sports section in the paper if the real estate stories suck. :-)
I'd suggest The New No-Nonsense Landlord from Richard H. Jorgensen. Some of his ideas are over the top, but overall there's a lot of good ideas that you can adapt to your situation.

If you're looking for a book that offers insider tips and advice to help you become a successful real estate investor then stop- This is not the right book for you.
If you're looking to be entertained, and read anecdotal stories from real estate investors then this might be worth a read. I'm not saying there isn't some value contained inside this book. But it's similar to the value in a fable. You read a 4-5 page story, and in the end you get a one sentence moral. Overall this wasn't the book for me, I found it totally useless and wouldn't recommend it to anyone seeking a serious book on real estate investing.

You've got other places to spend your money. Don't waste it on this "Glossary" of nothing new under the sun. What no one ever tells you about investing in real estate--believe me, you've probably heard it before.
