Ok! The title got me.I want to know "what They Didn't Know" I was curious to see where this book,and the characters would take me.At firsts I was bit lost becauseI couldn't get a grip on what character I was following.Shilo,and Candy who are two child hood friends they were the best of friends.Candy had problems at home,and with out notice had to move away with out telling shilo.Shilo grows up to become a beuatiful teenager,and getting ready to graduate from high school.She often wonder what ever happen to her best friend ,Candy.At first it was dealing with two girls,and there friend ship,and the problems that one was having.then it kind of takes you back to why candy had to move,and it also takes you back to when there parents where teens.I guess it would explain the problem that Candy had,and would also solve why candy had to move.Plus answer some questions that Shilo was asking.

When Candy Bell and her family moved into the same neighborhood as Shilo Gaines, they became instant friends and stayed that way until one fateful day in which Candy and her family were gone. Candy's home was never a welcoming one so she spent a lot of time at Shilo's. Always lurking in the shadow was Miss Posey, a woman most considered a nosy neighbor.

Flip to the present and Shilo is embarking on graduation from high school and entering college. Candy is a high school drop out hell bent on seeing her best friend at least one more time. WHAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW by Carrie Thigpen reveals many secrets and lies of the life of Shilo and Candy's parents. The story weaves back and forth from the past to the future and through the lives of Gaines and Bell families. All the characters are interconnected and just how, is not revealed until the end.

The author does an excellent job of intertwining the relationships of the characters, each with their own storyline, and keeping the reader guessing as to how it will all play out. The development of characters and the history brought to light is amazing and keeps you on the edge of your seat. How the mind works when betrayed is exposed and seemingly understandable regardless of the consequences. Surprise at the conclusion is an understatement. WHAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW involves very complex family ties that are interesting and provides a lot of shock value.
