Debi Derryberry (also the voice of Jimmy Neutron) brings new energy to children's favorites and her original songs with this fun and eclectic blend of blues, boogie-woogie, country, jazz, campfire and lullaby. The songs in ‘What A Way To Play’ include sparkling new arrangements of traditional children’s favorites, as well as half a dozen Derryberry originals, which include the irresistibly playful title tune and “My Dog’s My Buddy,” a celebration of childhood canine love set to a “get-up-and-dance,” rock ‘n’ roll beat that Debi wrote when she was nine years old. Other highlights include a swinging version of “The ABC Song” featuring beautiful walking bass lines and pithy commentary from the blues harp; a rockabilly setting – in three different languages – of “Itsy Bitsy Spider;” a wonderfully funky rendition of the perennial children’s favorite, “The Wheels on the Bus;” and “Raisin Fingers,“ a jazzy, minor-keyed vamp song about one of the first observed mysteries of childhood: bathtub wrinkles. There’s also “Nose,” a gentle country waltz contemplating the problem of a cold bedtime nose with such funny solutions as having the nose switch places with the mouth! Rounding out the album are “Pippity Pop,” a speech-song rendition of nonsense syllables set to an ensemble of percussion instruments, the Calypso-flavored “Baby Banana,” a lively version of “Lollipop Tree,” a straight-ahead celebration of the Woody Guthrie folk anthem “This Land Is Your Land,” and the gentle country two-beat ballad, Harry Nilsson’s “Little Cowboy.”

This was purchased for my 4 year old daughter. She absolutely loves singing and dancing to the songs. My 7 year old son even likes most of the songs. I would definitely recommend if you little one likes to sing and dance around the house. The songs are fun and the lyrics are pretty good.

We saw the live performance, if you haven't, I could not recommend it any higher. Debi breathes, eats,and is animation in such a real way! It reminds me of Lamb Chops reincarnated-I am so glad that she is a part of this generation's entertainment and my child has someone to tell her children about!
